New Denali owner, a couple questions

Hello,

I just bought a 2001 Yukon Denali after years of wanting one, one owner from an older couple down the street. Well being blinded by that, theres a few issues to address since they were originally from B.C. Canada....

1. The Gauges are all metric, is it as easy as just buying one of those overlay kits from ebay and slapping them on? I assume you have to make not of where the needles are before pulling them?

2. The undercarriage has to be recoated, no big deal. but I did find a small spot of bubbled paint on the roof, which ill have to sand/repair. any other common areas these things rust? Upon research, I was surprised to find so many people complaining about rust on these.

3. The chrome wheels are shot (another common complain from what ive seen), is OE wheels the cheapest place for new ones? Ebay? I prefer the OEM look.

Other than that its sweet! Just getting ready to do some 100k maintenance on it....

Nice vehicles and nice Denali. I can't help with the gauges, but I'll take a shot at your other questions. I have noticed a small amount of rust on the underside of the liftgate, the bottom, the closest to the step pad. I think this is due to water pooling on the bumper/step pad, since there is no drain there. Underneath the wheelwells is also an area of concern. I'm not sure about Denalis, but on my LTZ, the plastic liner does not cover the uppermost area, so it's just painted metal that gets hit with road grime, mud, dust and everything.

For rims, Ebay is probably the best bet if you're looking for something specific but check out your local craigslist also. Sometimes people will get new rims and just want to unload their stock ones quick. I think for OEM Denali rims it might be a bit more difficult though since people realize their value and they get snatched up quick. I've seen many Yukon SLTs riding on Denali rims.

Thanks, I plan on pulling the fender liners off and washing out the inside when I pressure wash the underside to recoat it. I do notice behind the wheel wells theres a good bit of rock chips due to no mud flaps, other than that everything looks ok. I checked behind the weatherstripping on the bottom of the doors and it looks good, and drain holes look clear.

Its quite the ride difference compared to a 3/4 ton truck!

the rear doors ARE the wheel well on the SWB versions, the doors rust if you don't keep the water drains clear

NORCALL SS is a vendor here, he can probably get you the best deal on OEM style wheels


not sure on the overlay
