Yes. The nut where the high pressure fitting is comes off. One you remove that fitting it will come apart with coaxing.

I don't believe that is oil related imo. There was a small imperfection and no matter what was in that diff damage was already done. the damage grew larger with use and time. Late model GM pinion bearings seem to fail quite a bunch.
tbqh GM doesn't give a damn because if they did these issues would have not happened. My 2004 was bulletproof and the jury is out on my 2013. Only time will tell. Good Luck.
