has anyone ever swapped from a 6.2 to a 5.3?

if i had the choice between a brand new "FREE" crate motor in the 5.3 displacement or having to pay the $3500 for a quality 6.2 reman id absolutely choose the reman in 6.2. I am not bashing on the 5.3 just questioning why you would want to go backwards in displacement?

My 05 Tahoe 5.3 gets worse mileage than my 09 Tahoe 6.2
I do alot of city driving, the 05 struggles with 11mpg, while the 09 is almost 13mpg. However, as of lately I run E85 in my 6.2 and I get 10mpg at best in the city, but I only spend $2.33 a gallon for E85 and it still lasts 2 weeks just like running premium did.

Honestly I don't think the mileage between a 5.3 and a 6.2 are that different, definitely not enough to justify an entire engine swap.

I get it, but consider the cargo your carrying safely, comfortably, entertained and the cost to transport your world in comfort isnt that bad. Lease a steer and go "stripped" econobox like a corolla/kia for <$199 per month and use it for the short trips, you wont exceed your miles if you dont take road trips with it. Every family should have a 30+ mpg car in their driveway.

Your right foot dictates a lot of your mileage however there are other factors to consider.

Mileage/condition of engine.
Tune up. (Plugs, wires, air filter, fluids)
Inflation of tires.
And perhaps most importantly what gear ratio resides in the rear end of the vehicle.

My 08 Suburban with 220k miles has the 5.3L/4 speed and a 3:73 rear end gets about 13-14 MPG around town on 89 oct which is what it is tuned for. This is with AFM tuned out.

On the interstate it gets about 17-19 cruising 70-75. If the truck had a 3:42 or 3:08 rear end it would probably exceed 20 MPG on the highway.

On E85 I only get 9.5-10 MPG in town and about 13-14 interstate.

This is strictly my wife’s vehicle I have never driven it (for certain reason) I drive my duramax and that’s it. She does have a heavy foot but dang 10 it’s crazy to me. She has her work car that gets 28 but it a turd and I refuse to ride in it. Broke flex pipe makes it sound great....I guess it’s time to buy a car for the weeks we don’t have all the boys
