Hi!
I own a 2001 Chevy Tahoe 5.3 L. I’ve got an engine noise, or at least what I think is an engine noise, that only occurs while I coast while in drive. I don’t hear it if the car is in park and the engine is just idling. The strange thing about the noise is that it goes away as soon as I just lightly tap the Excelerator. So it only comes on when I take my foot off the Excelerator and Coast.
Any help would be appreciated trying to find out what this is. Thanks!

like a grinding noise? I wonder if you hearing what I had. It was my pinion bearing in the rear diff. I ended up replacing my rear end.

Yeah, it is a grinding noise. Hard to tell if it comes from the front or back. I have 240k on the truck, so was wondering how long the rear end would hold up. When you say replacing rear end, is that the whole rear axel?

You can have the rear end rebuilt if it is what I think it is. I did my entire rear axle becuase I found a cheaper option. Found a complete axle for 675 and installed it myself.

...yeah, that sounds about right. Went to a shop today and they'll look at it. The mechanic said worst case they can replace the insides of the differential.

Well the sounds in the video sound to me like the spyder gears. Which aren’t horrible expensive and a bearing/seal rebuild kit for the rear end you can get for about 180 and that’s the better quality bearings.

Would you be able to do the work yourself?0
