Long story short, a few weeks ago I noticed what I thought was a faint buzzing sound which I thought was the BOSE amplifier going out in my 2007 Tahoe LTZ (160,000 miles). As I would move my head closer to any of the speakers the noise would go away... Then I realized yesterday that the noise is coming from the little grille above my head, and it sounds like there is a small motor, I suspect for the HVAC temp sensor, but I do not know.

1) I apologize, I would do a search, but I do not know what to call it
2) Has anyone run into this before?
2A) what part number do I need? or How do I search for the part number on websites like GM parts direct
2B) How difficult is it to repair / replace it?

It irritates me, so any help is appreciated.

Thanks

John

Ok, it is what I thought it was... Funny thing I have a 2006 Buick Rainier that had the little grille on the B-pillar post, when I disassembled the car to clean everything up there was nothing behind the grille. But there is something behind this one for sure.

I'm betting it had manual AC controls where your Tahoe has auto climate controls... For manual controls, there's nothing that needs to be there.

Just out of curiosity... my A/C will sometimes not blow cold... like the compressor is turned off and I can tap on the ambient temperature sensors and it starts blowing cold again...

Is this just a coincidence or is it possible they could be going bad???

They were making noise on and off for a while.

Wish I had a Tech2 so I could see what was going on with it.

If a Tech II was $500 or something comparable to a Tech II I would jump on it. I like to diagnose and fix my cars/trucks on my own if I can, unfortunately even the best code reader is so limited, and I do not want to spend $2000 on something I use so infrequently. The code readers do a lot, but there is so much you can do with a Tech II, like turn on and off components to help diagnose problems. I had my oil pressure gauge go out on my Tahoe, the guy had a Tech II, he plugged it in and then he was able to send a fake signal to the gauge to check the gauge, then he said it was the sender...
