Been searching threads for a few hours now about suspensions (z55 air ride), I found the Arnott replacement kit that KEEPS air ride intact for 799.00 and includes the air compressor, BUT I’ve also noticed you can do Bilstein bypass shocks/struts too. If I’m reading correctly, the Bilstein set up will work just fine but I been watching you tube videos and it looks like there’s a lot more labor involved.

I don’t plan to do this myself. I was quoted 200 bucks by my mechanic to swap in the new air ride set up, hoe much more work is involved in going with the Bilstein conversion?

Also, it sounds like auto ride doesn’t do anything the Bilsteins won’t except for level out the rear when towing. I would tow a couple quad runners on a small trailer at the most. Should I keep air ride for such a small trailer and weight?

Looking to do whichever is least expensive as long as it’s still mostly apples to apples ride and handling wise

you can get that arnott stuff off of rockauto for much less, the shocks run about $150 each plus a core which gets refunded when you send the old ones back, the arnott pump is $221 but I am sure you can find the dorman pump for around $150 online or on ebay or amazon. so at any rate you can save yourself a couple hundred buying it elsewhere

So the 150.00 is before getting back the money on the core charge it sounds like. I will check rock auto, thanks!

ya there $150-165 and I think the core is $50 (each) so it makes the initial out of pocket a little more but you will get it back, still cheaper than anywhere else. plus there is a little helper 5% off code in the vendor sticky you just copy and paste that into the "where did you here about us" on the rockauto page when checking out.

I been checking the web and it seems like the conversion kit is a smart idea due to wiring getting old and less stuff to go wrong down the road. Found the bypass kit on rock auto, think I’m gonna go with the conversion kit. Sometimes old school is better I guess. Might not ride as good but it’ll be plenty good enough I imagine

Edited to add: definitely getting rid of air ride... according to some others threads n posts, you can get straight up old school shocks/struts and eliminate the error messages with some resistors and pulling a fuse (gonna go read some more about going that route)

Have you found much on any other shock options? I know there are several options but all I've really seen comments on are arnott, bilstein and monroe

I am looking at the Arnott conversion kit to get rid of air ride and electronic ride control. I had pretty much made up my mind that was the route I was gonna go but I came across posts about steering being wonky after the conversion so I’m still lookin into it
