New Truck in Town vs GM Units

It will be interesting to see. Fords been using these engines for quite some time now though...My guess is that they wouldnt risk messing up the best selling trucks in america with bad engines but who knows. Check out the testing they do on these things.

The version they are putting in the Navigator is basically the Raptor engine, (which is also a basically differently tuned Expedition engine). Good enough for me!

Looks like im a little late on this but...
So a comparo between a 2018 top trim expy with the FX4 package vs what sounds like a standard 2017 LT 4x4. I wonder why Ford didn't opt between their new horse vs the 2018 Suburban with the 6.2 And 10 speed? Or a 2017 Denali, since that is the top trim of "the same thing". Or the RST Tahoe. They didn't want to get beat. Chevy hasn't used their joint 10 speed because they haven't needed to. Full-size Ford SUV's were a joke compared to their Chevy counterparts so why. The new Navigator is finally something FoMoCo can be proud of. And it may actually start to give Escalade some competition. But the Expedition has long since been under the shadow of Tahoe for the last decade at least. Only blue oval fans could justify buying one because they were that bad. Sure they had the third row legroom but the advantages stopped there. And if GM ever makes the 2500 Suburbans again... well, bye bye Expedition. Their little V6 wound up as tight as it will go will never be able to match 12,000+ pounds of towing. Chevy still has that ace in the hole. Ford will never be able to dominate the full size SUV market because they will never understand that a nice interior isn't enough to sell these vehicles. Expedition as well as Navigator have a long row to hoe just to diminish their low reputation in this segment.

What do they need in your opinion? More horses? More torque? Higher towing capacity? Nicer interior? More interior room? Better gas mileage? Better options packages and electronics?

Ford has done it..... impressed and intrigued. Ford provided MotorTrend with a Suburban for a comparison good read.

That is a pretty funny article. I had to read it again just to laugh. He's pretty clear on where he stands in the race between GM and Ford. It's ok, GM needs more competition. I think they are getting lacks with their quality (again).

Again have to disagree I drove both man. The Expedition is a truck, always has been. It’s always had the Super Duty interior hard plastics, rode like a truck, sounded like a truck. Ford sold less because they are more trucky and less friendly. They don’t have all the bells and whistles they are simple machines. IMO the 03-17 Expeditions were good trucks no they weren’t flashy, no they weren’t fancy and didn’t have the front end these do, but they are good in their own way. A simple and reliable way. As far as taking on the 2500 suburban..... Excurision 6.0L all that needs it be said

Ford needs to start winning the product placement game, if you watch tv shows, very few of them will feature the Little Explorer or the Two versions of the Expedition. Blue Bloods did replace their Tahoe with an Excursion, a good choice IMO, but for every Chicago PD show with Voights old very strange color Cadillac Escalade now a Ford product which I cant identify, there are many shows with GM products, mostly Black Tahoes and Suburbans. A New version of the Excursion (poet here) would be good enough for me to look seriously at Ford again. It probably would be offered with the either the 3.5 or a small diesel, and not a 6.7 Powerjoke. Ford always made a huge mistake in cancelling that vehicle.

Excursions were stapled to showroom floors. The market for 20ft vehicles with sub 15mpg numbers is pretty small.

Ford only stopped selling the Excursion for two reasons, one was they were afraid that the vehicle was canabalizing sales from their diesel f250s which made more profit for them. Second was they put all their large SUVs eggs into the Expedition basket. They made a Max and then an EL to accommodate the people who wanted a bigger version. Sub 15mpg is not bad for the size of the vehicle and what it can do, the 7.3 Diesel and the 6.0 when the bugs were worked out returned much better numbers.

The Hummer while a great truck was not as useful as the Excursion was, it was only the target of the treehugger and prius loving crowd.
