Hi all, Just logged in - registered.
I bought a 2011 Yukon Denali XL.
I like the truck!

I have a few questions on it.
Searching for "oil" is not possible (3 letter word) and oil filter didn't help.

Anyway.

1)
I need recommendations for what oil filter to use?
AC Delco, Pure one, Mobil....

2)
Also, what would be the best oil?
Synthetic?
6 quarts, correct in my 6.2 liter?
3)
What motor do they call these? ( so I know what I am looking fro in other posts).
I was thinking the Mobil oil filter or AC Delco oil filter.
And Mobil synthetic for the oil.

4)
Anything else to look for or do?
5)
How many of you turned off the AFM (I think it's called).
I was leaning toward letting mine run on 8 cylinders all the time.

I don't think this vehicle ever towed anything. Tranny was flushed at 60,000 along with he coolant and rear diff.

I believe the TPS was replaced on it, that's about it.

6)
I am in Michigan, any tricks to try and slow down rust?
I was planning on spraying the underneath with fluid film before winter.
I sprayed inside the doors and wheel wells and tailgate to slow down rust as much as I can.

It has one small spot of rust on the back quarter panel - I got a quote to fix it, but they said it wouldn't help since it is starting from the inside out.
7)
There has to be a way to help it out. I've heard the GM preferred way is to unfold the weld hem and fix the rust, then bend it back and glue it or weld it or something. Any suggestions would be great.

I hope to read a lot on here and gain some knowledge!!

Thanks!!!

Welcome! Plenty of reading /knowledge in here for all of us! Good snag on the 6.2 XL. That's a beast. How many miles? Post some pics for us!

1) Guys like wix, Purolator, Delco, Mobil1... I'm a Mobil1 guy.

2) 6 qts. Use a good synthetic and change it at reasonable intervals (3,000-7,500). None of this annual 10,000 mile Bs. Again, guys like different brands. I'm, again, a Mobil1 guy.

3) I think yours is be the L94. Somebody check me here, please....

4) how's it ride /feel?

5) AFM SUCKS.

good news on your tranny and diff service.

6&7) I live in the state of denial (aka IL). I don't talk rust. Lol

Though I hates all the "chrome" on the front end so I swapped the lights and grill pieces.

The wifey loves it.
It is nice - normally we drive our crew cab duramax so this rides much nicer.
It has 73,000 miles on it. Came from original owner.

Yeah I plan to use synthetic and change every 5000 miles.
I wasn't sure if anyone stuck with dexos.

Found a guy on craigslist who deletes the AFM for $100, but I may look into my own tuner to do that.

We just had our 2nd child so this works very well for us. I hope to keep it a long time!

Great looking truck friend! I love the look with the grille color matched! Looks killer! Welcome! Yes I believe your 6.2L is the L94. That's low miles too! Lots of room to mod and play with it and make it your own. Synthetic is the way to go with oil. I just use either the napa or car quest brand for oil and filters whichever is on sale. Always used them in the vehicles I've had and never presented problems. Bought my 2006 xl Denali with the 6.0 in it with 74k on the odometer, right off the bat switched to synthetic oil. And it runs great.

yeah it has a thing on the dash and shows when it is running in 8 cylinders or 4.
Yes, it has AFM.

I might just get a Hypertech programmer to turn it off and then change it to regular octane fuel.

So glad I found a post about cruise control not working. I replaced the brake sensor and it now works!! Yay.
Did my first oil change. I thought I could fit me and my gut under it, but I ended up using ramps. The old oil looked good. Put mobil 1 synthetic in it.

By the way, is there a inside cabin air filter on these? I thought I read there was, but then when I was at the store and looked up my vehicle, nothing came up....
Thanks!!

Not from the factory. The kit from GM is 22759208 and Dorman's is 259-201. My then fifteen year old daughter installed the Dorman kit with the carbon filter for me.
