I have a 1993 yukon. lifted 9" (3" body, 6" suspension). I want to do a solid axle swap, but I need to know what type of axle to use.. I was thinking I could get an axle from an old K5, or possibly out of a ck2500. has anyone ever done this swap, or know any tips? Thanks!

Not too many guys around here have done an SAS. IIRC you need an axle out of an older ford truck or a late 90s dodge? Try gmfullsize...tons of info there on this

needs to be a drivers side pumpkin axle to be able to reuse the stock t case. the older chevys are all passenger side drop. the axle would would but would require work with the t case . if you can find a ford axle it will be the easiest. either d60 or a d44 and swap the outers to chevy 6 lug or 8 if you upgrade the rear to 14ff as well. lot of info on pirate fsc and other sites on the swap

what front axle you use is determined by what transfer case you decide to put in. If you take a transfer case out of an 88-91 k5 or suburban, you can use a chevy axle up front, which would be a lot cheaper. If you keep your current transfer case, you will need a ford front axle or a post 94 dodge axle

Heres an SAS sticky from fullsizechevy.com hopefully itll give you some info

Just take it with a grain of salt though.
"Panhard bar: No one really mentions running a Panhard bar on the front axle while doing a SAS but after running without one, I 100% recommend it. It helps steering and also eliminates doglegging while driving. "
I don't have a panhard bar and mine tracks straight down the road.

If you use a 90-91 tranfer case with the vss you can use a front axle out of a pre 94 dodge or 73-87 chevy no problem. or if you keep the np246 your options include post 94 dodge or any ford front axle. It is preferable to keep a 32 inch spring pad width, so that narrows it down even further. Mine is a hpD44 out of a 79 F250, but if I ever needed a transfer case, I would probably go with a np241 t-case, then swap in a newer AAM axle out of a newer Dodge.

ivew got drivers side np241 right now. theres a 79 k2500 i want to get to use the 14ff and front axle maybe too. i found a ford front end as well.. but using parts from that truck will save me money and get it running. may swap to a ford axle later and then do driveshaft too. getting 4wd first is not a top priorety just the brakes and steering all worked out. i thought about the dodge front axle and swap to chevy outer unibearings but they use vacuum disconnect on the front end and id rather have locking hubs and dont want to cut off all the link brackets
