So i have talked about doing this mod before and i pretty much got all the info and prices i was looking for now that question is just go for it or dont so lets see what all you think. Im sure some of you have heard about that advanced 2 way remote system, it goes for about 150$, and then the dealer wants 98$ per hour to program it and 50$ to install it. Well my buddy who work with car audio/security can get me the remote from GM for 120, and the install for 30...so 150$ and my service guy, who ive become pretty coolk with, said hell program it for 50$...TOTAL PRICE 200$ do it or not???

HERE IS WHAT IM TALKING BOUT FOR THOSE WHO AREN'T FAMILIAR WITH IT:

2-Way Advanced Remote Start (19156555)

The 2-Way Advanced Remote Start allows you to add extended range remote keyless entry and remote vehicle start. This new accessory features technology that allows 2-way communication between the key fob and your vehicle. This two-way communication allows you to monitor many of the systems in your vehicle including temperature, fuel level, tire pressure and much more. You can even control the radio with your remote.

i was told that with the factory you can not adjust or even turn on the radio with the factory auto start. i would personally go with a viper system or a company dedicated to anti theft systems (DGMW) i dont have any problems with dealers things but most that stuff is just to hype up nothing tire pressure/ fuel i can find that out b4 i get out my trucc or after i get in it!!! i had my trucc broken into in front of my house and the alarm didnt go off becuz the guy broke the glass if it were after market just tapping the glass would have it go off..hence aftermarket / also if you have the factory horn thats all that s gonna beep and from inside who can hear that i kno the viper comes with another horn set just for the theft deterrnt my .02 id stay away from the dealer you said $200 total another $50 and you have a viper and to me more peace of mind!!!

I have installed about 7 of those 2 way remotes. $50 bucks just to program it... are you sure he's your friend? I would do it for free for you, i don't even know you but that your a fellow forum member. O well, time is money i guess.

I think these things are a waste of money, yeah it's "cool" and has the "wow" effect. Cause you can change radio, change A/C temp, check tire pressure, gas level. So if $200 bucks is worth knowing that at the time you please, then sure go ahead and get it. That's my opinion.

Thanks for the replies so far people...In reply to some of those its not about the A/C or radio or any of those truly unnecessary features, i think its more about knowing when the car has started threw remote start and when the car is locked and unlocked. I was told that going aftermarket if you have a factory remote start is bad because something like the factory remote wont communicate well with your factory remote starting system??? Anyone heard the same thing???

when u hook up an aftermarket as long as it is installed CORRECTLY no problem i believe the aftermarket will work better the viper one come with a screen so you kno its locc'd or unlocc'd also flashes on the part of the car thats triggering the alarm going off/ guess you have to research

i i had my trucc broken into in front of my house and the alarm didnt go off becuz the guy broke the glass if it were after market just tapping the glass would have it go off..hence aftermarket !

I had a factory shock sensor added to my factory system. The sensitivity is adjustable. My alarm (factory) will go of if you tap the windows or if a loud car or motorcycle goes by close to it

I had an aftermarket 2-way remote start on my last car and I loved it. My company's parking lot is not near my office window, but with a 2-way system you don't have to look outside and see if your parking lights flashed/came on. It sends a signal back to the remote to confirm receipt and you know your car started.

Well worth it if you don't want to get up and walk over to a window/door every time you want to remote start your vehicle (which for me is every day in the winter).

Remote

I like that remote and the features it offers. However, i am also looking for something that will control the windows. I often leave my windows down while at work and when it starts to rain i would like the ability to put them up remotely.

Does this remote allow for that and if not, is there such an animal out there for a 08 Tahoe LTZ?????

Thanks in advance for any help..

No there is now window control on it. Get an aftermarket Viper system so you can do that.
