Rebuilding front diff

So I finally got around to opening up my front diff to see why it wasn't engaging. I didn't have to look very far after removing the right axle tube to see what the problem was..

Has anyone seen this before? because to me it looks as if the previous owner rebuilt it himself.. while he was drunk:imo:
