View Full Version : Speaker Wine?

I haven't had my 2007 tahoe but for a few months. But I have noticed a wine in speakers especially with the sound turned all the way down. I know it is normally a wire that isn't shielded properly. Has anyone else had this issue with the factory Nav and Bose system?

Yes, I have this problem. This was one of the issues that I was going to discuss with my service department.
It has done it since I have owned the vehicle (5 months)

+1 I have the same issue. I can only hear it when the radio is either off or very low.

Some call it alternator whine, usually a signal wire (rca) ran closely to a power wire, or could be a loose/bad ground. Check that and also if you have aftermarket amp you could add a ground loop isolater(sp?) and that should take care of it, if its all factory and in the actual speakers and not the sub...then i am of no use. Good Luck

I am going to add it to the list when I take it in for service since it is still covered under the certified warranty. I'll let everyone know what they say.

dealership says they may have to replace the stereo. :( Will update whenever they finish.
On a high note, they gave me an Equinox as a loaner. Its no Tahoe in size, but its a pretty slick little vehicle. The fuel mileage is nice.

Nice maybe they could replace it with the newer head unit with the ipod connection and XM traffic :)
Let me know if that is what they do, since mine will probably need the same thing done.

Oddly enough (or maybe it's not), they replaced the alternator to fix the problem. Said there was a bad diode in the alternator even though I have not had any charging issues.
Anyway, it seems to have fixed the problem.

The alternator might be the case with mine too. I have noticed somedays the gauge goes down to about 8-9volts and then it shoots up to 14 volts kinda has a mind of its own, but never throws a check light to alert there an issue.

Me too! Sounds like a real high pitch that only a dog would here lol (I guess I'm a dog because I can definitely hear it). Sad thing is I just picked it up today.
I'm going to take it to the dealer and have them check it out (I'll mention the alternator).

My 2008 does not have the wine. I can hear very low music in the back ground when the radio is off and the NAV is on.

When I installed my aftermarket radio, my speaker whine went away. So, I figure it was either the factory stereo or a bad ground (loop) in my Overhead DVD which I re-routed the ground and 12v to the 12v ACC behind the new radio.

Any whine like that is likely an alternator problem in a newer (07+) truck. That diode that goes bad causes a barely audible whine or hum in the audio system. I have had it happen in several GM vehicles that I have owned.

I finally got a chance to bring mine in for service and they said they could not duplicate the problem. I told them to keep the car until it was fixed. I guess I need to tell them to check the alternator. Anyone else have a hard time getting the techs to hear the whine?

I haven't had mine looked at yet, but I have a speaker whine only when in CD mode. Thought that was kind of weird.

I had mine checked and they replaced the alternator, the whine is very low and you really have to listen for it but it is better.

I will tell them to check the alternator if they call saying they can't fix it. I think either they didn't want to fix it or the person testing the car can't hear certain frequencies, hahaha
UPDATE as of noon today. They now can finally hear the whine, but state it isn't coming from the speakers. Oddly enough when you turn the radio off you don't hear the whine.....They also tried to state that it is normal. So I told them if I test drive a brand new 2010 in the parking lot it will do the same?? They then said they would call me back.

Well after the dealer stated it was normal and a module picking up radio frequencies in the engine. I got them to replace the alternator. It didn't help one bit so now I look like the idiot, lol. Guess its a trip to a different dealer to see if they can figure out the problem. Anyone have anymore suggestions to what it might be?
