Where can I get the 120 mph speedo for my 98 Tahoe? Is it plug and play or is there something that needs calibration or programming?

Do you do 120 in your Tahoe often enough to need it?

I believe the only one that is plug and play for that year is the police speedometer.

The 120mph speedo found in the Escalade/Denali/Tahoe Limited are plug and play. I have one installed.

The 130mph police speedo needs a jumper wire soldered between two points on the back of the cluster and it will work too without any other modifications.

Yes, i do 100mph quite often in my truck. (actually when I have the need for speed) Once I get to 100mph, the needle just lays there. Besides it's something about a truck that will do over a 100mph but can't see it. Anyway, what year escalades and denali am I looking for?

My truck hits 100 easily and bogs down. You need to remove the Speed limiter. Just make sure you have Z rated tires so they DONT BLOW from overheating at those speeds.

I AM NOT condoning this by the way. I hit 150 in the DSM and I was scared as shit. Never took him that fast nor ever drove him like thast again. 3rd gear pull...shit was bending. I don't know how mofos on bike do that.

Limiter has been removed, 18in Moda R-7 wheels, pirelli scorpions. Runs good and strong, good to know you can run it if you want to.

a little off topic, but where and how do i rid myself of this speed limiter?
i rarely go that fast, but i like to know i can. last car, removal gave me 20 more mph. that was prior to the tune. so can i do it or do i have to wait for a tune?

With the hypertech programmer you can actually move the limiter to match your tire rating. I set mine to the max somewhere around 140mph. I'll never hit that with the tahoe so it is as good as gone. However I did upgrade the tires.

That's a newer model cluster and will not be a "plug and play" application.....

On the old forum, I did read about a guy putting a new cluster in an older body style like ours. IMO it was too much work for not enough pay off, but it can be done with heavy mods.

Pretty hard to buy the wrong one. Just get the speedo from an OBS Escalade and you will be set, no mods needed.

I think it's this type... But I dont really see a big difference unless you just wanted it to say 120mph!

Goes up to 120mph
RPM gauge goes up to 6K
White needles
Teal backlighting

and yes, that one would work.

How do you set the odometer on these? I got the esky cluster for my 97 tahoe and i didnt know there was a way you could change the mileage.

Here you go: http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/...r-removal.html
Glad to pass it along. My advice is to switch your trip also. The trip on the new cluster kept getting stuck after a few miles....

Instructions are pretty simple. What the above thread doesn't mention is that the face of the gauge is held in by "friction" and not bolts. So when prying the cavity open, don't worry about there being any bolts. When looking at the back of the unit, you can't actually see the pins that are pushing through the back. These pins are what holds in in using friction. Its kinda hard to explain it. Maybe i'll use my old gauge to make a "how-to" on this.

Man...........that sucks about the link, it was pretty good.....I guess it just means I need to do our own right up. Until then, I'll give you the steps in writing.

Take the cluster out of your dash.

When looking at the front, begin to pry with a flat head screw driver or something similar on the left side or the center top (or both) to begin the separation from the black face plate to the plastic back housing. This will not come easily but if you pry where I said you will not break anything, just take your time. Again there are "pins" or the contact points where each gauge instrument makes contact with the electrical sheet on the back of the housing. This is all that holds it together.

Once apart, flip the black face plate over and using a torx screw driver, unscrew the odometer and in my opinion your trip also. Pay attention to not loose the little red plastic gear combination thingy because once you unscrew them, this will be free and easily lost. (If you loose it, I’ll send ya mine as I got an extra).

Installation is the reverse.

Pics and a write up will come soon.
