Headers Install - difficult?

(HOPEFULLY) Going to replace my stock headers with long tubes before my B tune next month. It looks like a serious pain in the ass...any pointers, how-to's or experience with long tube installs?

NO. I guessed that would answer my question bc it looks impossible without one...I was trying to find a hookup on one with a thread last night.

I mean...anythings possible. Its just not that fun without a lift.

When I did the shorties on mine it took a few hours, just give yourself plenty of time, its always a good idea to take a step back and look at what your doing from a few angles, I hope your dvr side rear head bolt was not sheared off like mine was :-(

I did it on my day off at my shop using a lift. Took my sweet ass time and finished up some other things I've wanted to do to it as well. Started at 11ish finished by 4. The lift was infinitely valuable considering how low the truck sits.

I've done 3, soon to be 4, sets of headers. On trucks though. It really isn't that difficult, it's just time consuming. Make sure everything is the right part, going to line up before you start, etc etc and then have at it. I have a body lift on my truck so it was EASY to get to them. You can pull the wheel well liner out if you really wanted to.

so Max says it took him about 5 hours using the lift, and probably a few extra sweet shop tools that many of us weekend warriors dont have access too.

All that being said, how long do you guys think this task would take the average guy with standard issue tools?

It took about 3 hours to get my LT headers lined up and in place with all the cutting and welding taking another 3-4 hours. The cat converters are a tight fit.

i thought you had AEM headers, dont those have bolt flanges... what was welded?

Yeah I have the AEMs, however I had to modify the stock Y pipe to fit, especially the cat converters.

the y pipe. I had to remove my entire stock exhaust and sawzall my stock y pipe. I'm confident I could do another set in 2hrs if I hustled. you can do it with hand tools thats all I used most of the time. air ratchet is mad handy tho.

LTs are never full bolt in (shorties are direct bolt it) unless you get the full bolt in Y pipe.

arent they a complete bolt on when you buy the ORY with it? or am i misunderstanding something?

They are, but you will have a hard time finding AEMs with the ORY.

yea i dont think i will be getting AEMs... as sad as it makes me, i just cant afford to put the stuff i want on the hoe. I really like the look of those LPP's, but i still have yet to hear any data on the performance, i really dont want to use pacesetterst though

I would say 4-6 hours... it's not too difficult just time consuming...

when are you getting those? they look nicer then the Pacesetters IMO. the collector looks real nice. I hope you get them soon, I am dying to hear how these guys fit and perform. You going to get a tune after that??

yes, i'm slow when it comes to ordering stuff...LOL...they should be here in a week, and then I plan to put them on. then, I plan to swap gears to 4.10, then have Justin/Jenna do a tune for the new gears/header install. Then I'm geared and have LT's, for when I do the 6.0 build.
