View Full Version : Windshield tint-who's got it?

Narco

I had a Pathfinder that had a tinted windshield and I could see fine. It looked pretty dark. I wasn't going to tint the Tahoe's but sooooo much light gets in that thing that the 15% on the front windows looks too light.

Who has it done and how dark is it? Should I leave the "eyebrow" up top and tint over that if I do it or peel it off? any issues with night driving?

a buddy of mine with a massively-lifted silverado has a huge 4" strip up top, and an even bigger 6" strip on bottem. There's just a little slot to look through lol.

ive got a 6" brow now but dont want the "slot" look. i want to do the whole thing. i just want to know if i do how dark it should be and if i should remove the brow or tint over the top if it

This was a layer of 50% on the entire windshield, and both upper and lower 5% brows.

I want 35% with an upper brow at the as1 line so the po leaves me the fuck alone. 5% on the other windows makes it dangerous and inconvenient at night but it's so fucking nice during the day (we have 300+ days of sun). I think the variance between no front tint and ridiculous side window tint is whats causing the issue, I need a new 'shield first tho :(

jomulk56
12-06-2009, 12:19 AM
I would tint over the top brow. That way it'll look a little less obvious the entire window is tinted. I personally wouldn't go darker than 50%.

Sup guys? New member here. I am also a member over at Cadillac Owners but I can definitely connect with some guys over here, I saw this thread and knew I was in the right place. Lol I currently have 50% and 5% everywhere else. I like it with the 50 but in all honesty I wish I had gone 30. I've been pulled over once and the cop asked if it was tinted....I told him no and he looked right up on it and he couldn't tell that it was tinted so he let it go. That would NEVER happen with 30.

I put my stickers on a piece of clear static cling vinyl (the same material used by lube shops) and placed them over the tint. As they expire, I would replace the vinyl with a new piece.

I wish it was that easy for me, once I get it done i'll have two years to enjoy it then I gotta go back and get inspected again. They put the stickers on

Ha thats funny in Ohio we have a medical exemption law for tints. My neighbor is an eye doctor was kind enough to diagnose me with "glare problems" so I am able to legally tint all my windows as dark as I want. I have only been pulled over for tints a handful of times and its worked like a charm every time.

Do you get harrassed much in boca? I lived in boca for a couple years and had my denali down there with windshield tint and 5% all around and never once got pulled over for tint.

I have 5% over my stock 20% in the rear. Front doors are 20% and just put 5% over that so it matches the rear and I have 35% on the entire front windshield...

Not in Boca, they all know me or my father so no worries there but the second I cross into broward or dade county the road patrol cops stop me at practically every traffic light. They do tend to get a little pissed because most of them have never seen or heard of it, they call it in to verify and their superior tells them to let me go so then I end up with an improper equipment ticket for my tails. Here's a copy from another post I had about this subject......

In florida you can apply for a state sunscreening exemption! You get a Dr. to sign the application and submit it to the state with around $5 to $10 and your allowed to have your windows tinted as dark as you want!! My windows are 5% and my windshield is 35% with a 5% strip! I've had mine exemption going on 4 years and I get stopped all the time for my tint but I have never got a window tint ticket....instead they break my balls and give me a $72 unsafe equipment ticket for my tinted taillights!

I would google search your states statutes....ie. "Your State" sunscreening exemption, before I would go pulling my tint off and replacing it with something I will not be happy with!

Here is the link for my fellow Floridians......
http://www.lupus.org/webmodules/weba...0Exemption.pdf

Here is the Florida Statute:

Chapter 316 STATE UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL
316.29545 Window sunscreening exclusions; medical exemption; certain law enforcement vehicles exempt.--

(1) The department shall issue medical exemption certificates to persons who are afflicted with Lupus or similar medical conditions which require a limited exposure to light, which certificates shall entitle the person to whom the certificate is issued to have sunscreening material on the windshield, side windows, and windows behind the driver which is in violation of the requirements of ss. 316.2951-316.2957. The department shall provide, by rule, for the form of the medical certificate authorized by this section. At a minimum, the medical exemption certificate shall include a vehicle description with the make, model, year, vehicle identification number, medical exemption decal number issued for the vehicle, and the name of the person or persons who are the registered owners of the vehicle. A medical exemption certificate shall be nontransferable and shall become null and void upon the sale or transfer of the vehicle identified on the certificate.

(2) The department shall exempt all law enforcement vehicles used in undercover or canine operations from the window sunscreening requirements of ss. 316.2951-316.2957.

(3) The department may charge a fee in an amount sufficient to defray the expenses of issuing a medical exemption certificate as described in subsection (1).

---
(1) (a) Except as provided in this paragraph (a), no person shall operate any
motor vehicle registered in Colorado on which any window, except the
windshield, is composed of, covered by, or treated with any material or
component which presents an opaque, nontransparent, or metallic or mirrored
appearance in such a way that it allows less than twenty-seven percent light
transmittance. The windshield shall allow seventy percent light transmittance.
The provisions of this paragraph (a) shall not apply to the windows to the rear
of the driver, including the rear window, on any motor vehicle; however, if
such windows allow less than twenty-seven percent light transmittance, then the
front side windows and the windshield on such vehicles shall allow seventy
percent light transmittance.

i'm taking it that i could "legally" put a 70ish percent tint over the entire windshield.. meaning 30% of light is blocked... do they even make tint in that %..?

TITLE 75 Section 4524 (e)(1) of the Pennsylvania Common Statutes states that

(1) No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sun screening device or other material which does not permit a person to see or view the inside of the vehicle through the windshield, side wing or side window of the vehicle.

Note that the law only prohibits tinting which prevents a person from seeing or viewing the inside of the vehicle. It does not prohibit all tinting or tinting below 70%.

Basically as long as you can see through the windshield and side windows enough to make out a person you're/I'm good in PA. The only problem is I don't have any tint (besides stock) yet! lol

I have been in a truck with 35 on the windshield and inside looking out it you really cant notice it to much. But it also has to do with how dark your side windows are. Say if you have 35 on the 2 sides you will notice 35 on the windshield. If you have 5 on the 2 sides 35 is not that noticeable.

I'm so used to it and no one can see me while I'm driving. Since the tint is illegal in ny if less then 70% why sell ur self short in getting 35% when u can go much darker for the same ticket. My Hids help for the most part. I don't ever have to wear shades while driving lol. Most of the time my PBA card saves me anyway. Tint or equipment tix are the easy to beat in ny anyway. I got my exemption in TX, my doc wrote a prescrition for window tint and a letter explaining that i get light sensitive migraines.

35% on the windshield of my F150 with 20% on the doors and 5% on the back. Get pulled over about once a month and show the officer the letter from the DPS office stating that I am exempt and he/she lets me go.

When I get the windshield replaced on the hoe I will put 50% on it cause the 35% is hard to see thru on country roads at night that don't have any street lights.

theres no real reason to use a heat gun on the windsheild

the only reason they use a heat gun for tint
is so u can roll ur windows down and not ruin the tint befor it has time to dry

first thing I said before he even started was "what about these stars"
he said he shouldn't be tinting the window because of what NJ04HOE was talking about with it splitting more

I used some autozone windshield repair crap last summer to fill it in some and they haven't got any bigger since I owned the truck so I felt confident it wouldn't crack

my tint guy is the best! he said he's done it before on other peoples windshields but its a big liability if he does crack it so he just wanted to clear his ass

35% is not that bad at night I can see clearly with no trouble at all
my 5% strip though shows me that I'm glad I stuck with 35 because 5 you can't even read street signs

Then the ass pulled me over and got out his little meter. He didn't give a damn that I said I bought it three months before and didn't even know.

I'll just keep my back windows tinted I guess.

Good lord I don't know how you northern guys put up with it, I love my 1% tint lol. And I can't find anyone that will tint my windshield here in town...

With my interior mod, I had a good excuse to do the windshield tint for protecting my dash etc. In fact, I re-tinted the entire truck.

I used 3M Crystalline 70% on the windshield, and this is one of the highest end tints around, considered exotic by some. The price is stupid high on this tint but so far I'm impressed as hell with it....true test will be in the Texas summer heat!

Here's where I bought it, you can't even tell it's installed :waytogo:
