hi, to the forum. i installed a kenwood cd player in my 99 yukon. now it plays great for about 10 minutes and the the cd player shuts off and says "protect" on the screen. i looked in the manual and it says that means the speaker wires are shorted. is this a common problem with these or is this going to be a real pain in the you know what? any help would be greatly appreciated.

well i would check all the connections to the speakers, and with the new cd player did u splice and wire in or just buy a plug and play harness'es?

the door speakers have been replaced by the previous owners the rear
speakers(4x10) have not been replaced. the are delco speakers. i used a plug and play harness. i found some speaker wire from the previous owners that was ran from the front to the back and traced it down and it wasn't connected at either end. the factory rear speaker wires have been cut and then crimped back together but they worked with the factory radio. the rear speakers are a woofer and tweeter combined and the woofer part is blown but the tweeter works.

un plug the rears and see if the deck still cutts off and if it does then the wiring or speakers is the problem

i unplugged the factory amplifire and let it play and it hasn't cut out yet. so i think that the amp is feeding back through the speaker wire some how and shutting it off.
