I've heard a lot about the emissions control devices on vehicles (cat etc) are a drag on the engine, causing reductions in power and mileage. This being said I was wondering what everyone else would recommend (considering i have no emissions regulations etc to deal with) to remove or perhaps upgrade?

Keep in mind, if it is something that is not to difficult to simply remove rather than upgrade, that will not cause engine problems down the road, these are gold to me lol. Any recommendations people?

Well like you somewhat mentioned you can redo your exhaust. Go with long tube headers, remove the catalytic converter and get rid of the O2 sensor. You can remove the EGR and put in a simple plate to cover it, you will need a chip for this though.
