I was actually looking at the princess auto one as well, I was wondering if they worked as well, if they do I'd pick one up, well that is if they work on a 94 which i doubt because i think they only work on 96+ OBI2 vehicles.

If they say they work on my 94 i might pick one up shortly and let u know if they work.

I was looking at something similar..

http://www.scangauge.com/features/

Right, I meant scangauge II. I couldn't remember that name either. A buddy bought the scangauge II. He likes it, says it works well. But for me it's pricey for a gadget. The Princess Auto one is pretty much at the impulse purchase price, presuming that it works well...

I already have access to our company's auto garage snapon scanner, but I can't keep it full time in my truck, so I like this idea.

I think I'll buy one on Tuesday. I'll post back the results... If I don't like it, I'll bring it back...

DavyBoy, I don't think that the gauges section would work on non odbc-II trucks. But again, you could buy and return it if it doesn't work?

Well, I bought it.. that's the good news....

My wife won't let me use it or play with it or anything.. Apparently it's going to be a christmas present from her to me? WTF? How does that work exactly?

No pics, no nothing until after christmas.
Again it's a case of, 'yes dear, what ever you say dear.'

In case your wondering, I let her do shit like this to;
A: Make her feel good about herself and give her the illusion of control.
B: Not feel bad about hiding the other shit I buy from her!!!!!! http://www.princessauto.com/vmchk/shop-garage/repair-equipment/tune-up-equipment/8223802-speed-charge-battery-charger
C: Stay Married.

Technically it does, but it sucks...

What a pain in the ass to setup and use.
Also, I question how accurate it is. It's a calculation based on engine size, fuel tank size, how many kms you've driven, etc. You have to tell it when you fill up, how many liters, etc.

Anyways, here's a link to the manual.

All that being said, I'm not going to use MPG on it, I bought it for the gauges part.

When my boys are older, I'm going to use the 300hour blackbox function to read back how fast the boys where driving it!!!

Dope! I just read 'real-time fuel economy'.
nope, doesn't do real-time per say, just a calulation. It makes up a number and displays it while driving.

Ok. I finally got to install and use it for my road trip.
I just drove 7840kms round trip.

I ended up using it for its gauges, not the trip computer.
The four gauges that I settled on using were;
- Air Intake Temp
- Coolant Water Temp
- Throttle position Percent
- Engine load

In this regard, I would buy it again while it's on sale, but I wouldn't ever pay full price for it.

It would also be usefull as a code reader, if you don't already have one.
