so im startin my stereo install and wanna keep my cargo area in the back of my suburban as much as possible.i saw how JK built his into the floor and i wanted to build a similer box right off the floor not sunk into it and keep it right against the edges so it wil look like a raised floor in the back.i wanted to run two 12's how high of a box will i need to keep the size right for the subs to have enough air to work correctly?i plan to wrap it in the matching carpet or leather to match the rest of the interior and have a big floor mat to keep it stealthy!!let me know what you guys think.thanks....vJ

All you need to do is build it as deep as you need so that the subs will still mount. Leave about a 1/2" or so from the bottom of the box to the back of the motor structure. If you build the box flush with the sides and from the back of the truck towards the back of the seats, there is more than enough space for enough volume of air inside the enclosure. What I would do is build the proper size enclosure, cut your top floor piece, then attach it to the enclosure. If you use the entire space beneath your new floor, you'll lose some sound quality, but it will have a lower frequency extension with that much volume.

If you go with a shallow mount sub like this JL Audio 13TW5 the box depth will be much shallower... and these only require .80 cu. ft. of airspace.

yea those shallow mounts are a lil pricey.. and dont have as much throw as the full baskets.. BUT.. they slam.. i think you should do like 4 of those :) in as shallow a box as posisble.. would look soooooo sick.

another benifit of running shallow mounts.. is you could do a sheet of plexi or mdf over them so you could sit stuff on top of them and it still not be too tall
