Headers

Trying to determine what to do before I get my BB tune. What gains do you normally get with headers? Do the shorty headers bolt write-up to the factory pipes?

Debating on shorty headers, weld in some high flow cats (retain factory pipes) and then magnaflow cat back. What kind of gains would doing all this get?

Thoughts?

From what I've gathered lurking around here for a bit, don't bother with shorty headers. They don't offer much over stock. Go long tube or go home!

Anybody have any suggestions for long tube headers? And did you feel an increase in power after installing.

Pacesetters are decent but with the humidity you see there they will look like crap and rust out pretty quick. Best option are some dynatechs with high flow cats but you're taking $1200. Stainless works also makes a set for cheaper, you don't want to skimp on quality. I've heard the LPP longtubes and y pipe are a good setup too, I love my AEMs but they're hard to find anymore. Don't waste your time with shortys :imo:

for low end torque, keep the primary tubes small. 1 3/4 is huge, LPP's are big like those Pacesetters and it kind of kills low end. Look for something in the 1 1/2" or 1 5/8"..

I heard 1 5/8" primaries are super nice! I will probably end up with those LPP's though. The collector looks nice, all in all it looks like a nice setup for the price... and price is always a factor in my life, hence the lack of mods since I lowered the Z

BTW, with those pacesetters you are looking at, you will need an Off Road Y-pipe if you want it to bolt right up.

Question....living in California with all the dreamkillers, are long tube headers even legal anymore?

I think you're screwed unless you know the emissions tester. Any movement of the cats on a vehicle is illegal in cali iirc. I think you'll be cool if there are cats welded in and it looks like it could be stock, or at least passes with flying colors. Drop dime on good headers tho otherwise it could throw a goofy o2 signal and fail your test.
