When I pulled mine off, I painted the stainless screw-mounts body color, black, and you can barely notice them. I'm afraid of putting a cap on because it might stick up too much and look obvious. What I have seen done though on an S-10 blazer is using the side molding from a cavalier. I didn't think it looked that great, but the guy could have just done a shitty job.

Do you need to fill the gaps with anything? I remember hearing something with trailblazer's and how after taking the rack off, people had to fill gaps in.

I just went through the winter with it covered in snow half the time, and didn't have any problems. I'm kinda hoping that Chevy has the common sense to seal the holes when the rack comes off with simple torque screws. Other forums that I've read people were freaked out, but when you actually take it off, it appears to be sealed really well.

I won't be able to get some pics until next week because I don't have the car with me at college. It takes a couple minutes to unscrew it if you want to just try it out.

just get some set screws and screw them in..the allen wrench head kind..screw them in flush, and paint the left over metal washer type deal body color with touch up paint..all you can do besides welding them up
brndns_hoe

that's what i did, the set screw with allenhead top, and they happened to be black too, so no painting necessary.... it's still noticeable, just not near as bad as the original screws...but mocking ya? i know the feeling lol

I tried every which way possible, and what I have now is a bag of set screws, and assorted caps and plugs. No matter what it looks 1/2 ast. I guess its not bad if your 5'. So then finally I called a truce with the roof rack. I got some paint and painted them to mach the color of the Yukon (Pewter). If we ever get some decent weather in Pittsburgh I'll clean it up and download some pics. Believe it or not it will be 37deg in the AM.

just get a small bottle of the affordable stuff... i picked up 100% clear silicone in the squeeze tube, you really cant go wrong with any of them, just stear clear of the "silcone glue" as it is a bit more hearty and may be hard to get those set screws out if you should ever want that roof rack back on for whatever reason

i agree with you when it has a zero or mild drop.. but not slammed.. when its dropped hard not having racks looks more natural and makes the truck look even lower.. there was another bagged one with eskys at the last show (that we won) and even with the same amount of wheel tucked his truck looked way taller.

the set screws go into the female part..once you pull the female part, you just have a hole in your roof and thats no good unless your welding the holes up..

Don't remove the stainless female piece, those are sealed in to prevent leakage. Does anybody have any idea how much just having a body shop smooth the whole thing out would cost?

What you can do is shave it down. Either someone on here was talking about it or I saw a picture or something, but you can get it pretty low then paint what's left body color.
