Hey everybody hows it goin?
anyhow anybody using that Zmax stuff i saw a ad about it on T.V looks like the real deal ordered me a few bottles for my fuel, oil, and transmission though haven't added it yet trucc still sidelined for another 60 days...but have any of you noticed a difference in driveability or lack there of? the ad says to change oil and add fresh bottles every 6,000 miles.. who changes their oil that often i kno havent changed my oil in a while still at about 45% says my dash...but let me kno your thoughts guys..

My advise....take the money you would otherwise spend on additives and buy a good quality synthetic oil (I run Mobil 1) and a good quality oil filter and call it a day. IMHO all of that snake oil is a waste of your hard earned money.

I have heard that any oil additiove is a waste of money.
I remember when I first saw that stuff on TV. I thought I could not live without it and wondered how my truck was still running without it.lol

Just another 2c, but I tried Mobil1 and filter against typical dyno oil. No difference in driveability or mileage. Of course, the synthetic change was a good deal more expensive. I'm back to killing dinosaurs. Just not worth the money IMO. Additives in oil especially on a new car are probably money spent money burned. The clearances in these engines don't take advantage of synthetic.

Synthetic oil and an oil additive like Z MAX are two totally different things. The Z MAX stuff is supposed too restore lost power. Unlike Z MAX, synthetic oil actually does have certain benefits. The main one being the extended life of the oil. Royal Purple full synthetic will go 10K without needing a service.

If you maintain your vehicle properly, conventional oil is just fine. I only recommend synthetic if you are towing regularly or real heavy duty driving. BMW goes 15K on Mobil 1!! Not crazy about 6 oil changes in 100K miles but seeing was believing.

I do moderate driving.. around town i cruise sometimes on the highway i like to get loose also looking forward to getting into some off roading but not to deep ya kno just to test my 4wd i been using castrol syn. oil but when i seen the thing for Zmax thought i should give it a whirl if shelby adds it to his vehicles guess i fell for the properganda..... well i paid for it and got might as well throw it in there for a whirl...

Agreed, I get 'itchy' around 3,500 regardless of the type of oil. Old habits are hard to break I guess. I looked at the syn at 3,000 and it was dark and dirty. Probably not the best measure of it's effectiveness but I changed it. I'm religous about changing oil in all my cars, so why not save a buck. Honestly, I'm only at 7K miles and have changed the oil twice already. I don't use additives and I agree it's completely different than syn oil. I tried all this stuff on my first truck when I was 16 and nothing really did much if anything. The combo that worked the best wasn't oil or additives. It was exhaust, intake, and ignition. Not one or the other, but all three combined. Gave me about 5mpg more. Back in the day, I worked for Firestone so I got fat discounts on everything. These days, I'm poo. I can't even afford the 'r'. :hands:

Just seafoam it and use a good synthetic oil and good filter.

Which beach do I get this 'seafoam' at? Is west coast foam better than east coast foam?

I think Austrailian is best, but you have to harvest it yourself.

Adds like a 1000hp. The air molecule mixture with the plankton is the ticket. LOL, I saw Seafoam on the shelf at Vatozone, heard nothing but good things, on high mileage engines. :mexsmoke: (last name is Rodrigues, I'm allowed to make fun a little!)

ZMax = snake oil.
Seafoam is good. How many guys have Seafoamed their ride here?
Suck in a half-can of Seafoam slowly through your break-booster vacuum hose.
Turn off the engine and let it sit for 15 minutes.
Drive it briskly but be alert for a lot of smoke (due to the burning of the gunk that was loosened and removed by the Seafoam)

The Federal Trade Commission has filed suit in U. S. District Court seeking to halt false and misleading advertising for zMax auto additives and has asked the court to order refunds to consumers who bought the products.

This kind of stuff is easy to find with Google.

Google oil additives and all test shows that most do vey little if anything and some even reduce oilflow. Additives with PTFE showed the particles gathering in the oil gallys and let less oil throght the passage ways.

Dont discount the benefits of synthetic oil. The stuff does not break down under heat and maintains its viscosity nearly forever. If you plan on owning your truck a long time, I dont think there is a better insurance investment for the money for prolonging the life of your engine from wear.
Sounds like an adverisement i Know, but I have a buddy who is a chemical engineer and for years I blew him off about how synthetic was worth the money. He showed me a display that he made where an electric motor attached to a set of bearings that had a torque wrench attached to it to apply force. When you put in conventional oil you could only apply half the torque before the motor would drag and eventually stop and you could smell the heat and smoke coming off the bearings. I was able to almost put my entire body weight on the torque wrench with synthetic oil before the motor would slow at all. I put synthetic in everything except my lawn mower.

FYI, just read this in this month's Consumer Reports. I always though it would create chaos.
Contrary to what some believe, adding synthetic oil to regular oil won't harm the engine but there's no benefit to doing so.

I use a little bit of Lucas oil additives in my engine.

I just use high grade syn. oil and have never had any problems.

I did the seafoam treatment on my camaro at about 90k mi. Haven't done it on the Yukon yet. I didn't notice a seat of the pants power gain but it did blow a lot of crap out the tailpipes for a couple minutes and the oil was as black as coal (I only use Mobil 1 in the car). That's one of the uses not mentioned by warrlac, add seafoam to the oil, drive for 500 miles and change the oil.
