I love these styles for lifting. With a big ass 6 - 8 lift with lots of tread is sweet!!!

Your truck has always looked very clean. What color were you painting it? Are you going 2 tone again?

96ProCompTahoe
04-30-2009, 10:16 PM
body is staying the same color for now. should have been a little more specific. i had the bumpers, grill, and brushguard repainted, a rust spot on the driver side rocker and the front of the hood touched up. bumpers match the silver now and the grill matches the red. brushguard is still black.

When the house is completely done and the camaro is back to running its getting painted red to black fade (or thats what i like at the moment... haha)

No lift yet, still trying to find a 2 or 3" suspension lift that is worth a damn so I can put a slightly larger tire on it. I have test fit my LT275/75/18's and they have about 1/8" of play at full steer. Bars are already at the highest I want to crank them. I have been told by too many people that the 2-3" lifts are not worth it and they make the ride very stiff. Everyone tells me to jump to 6"...... I drive up and down the highway every day, and dont want to buy too big a tire or leave a fender looking hungry.

Hapyspaz: A lot of the 6" kits out there are only about 4" with no crank, you crank for the other two inches. That gives you the option to increase if you feel the need.

Hapyspaz: A lot of the 6" kits out there are only about 4" with no crank, you crank for the other two inches. That gives you the option to increase if you feel the need.

What about keys? What kind of height do I get out of a set of keys? If I could get 2", I can get 2" rear springs, crank the bars to match height?

I dunno, my girl is like 5'2" and already has a hard time getting to the side step, I think 4" would force me to drive the Acura everywhere when we ride together....

992door
05-04-2009, 07:32 PM
you would not need to get a set of keys you should be able to max out height with the stock ones

Bad bow tie
05-05-2009, 12:23 AM
Don't crank your stock ones to the max unless you plan on replacing your CV's and ball joints and etc. It will apply added stress and eat them up, as well as giving you a stiffer ride. If you do crank them, I would probably get an alignment as well.

992door
05-05-2009, 12:31 AM
you know you are about the only one that has mentioned more than just the CV's when cranking most just mention them and if they are not as important as the rest of it

The wear/break down of CV, Ball joints, ect is all due with time. They wear out faster when altered. I've had my bars maxed out and it's been like this for a year while pushing around 37" tires. I've only run into one issue where i had to replace a CV boot. Ball joints are still doing fine. CV shaft is still fine. I didn't notice the ride get worse. You do need to get an alignment as soon you mess around with the bars.

def a procomp 6" and a 3" BL. how'd you get 2" more? bigger blocks and keys?

I bought the truck new in '96. It is a true Z71 with the LT Package. The truck has 11" of lift. The front end has a 6" Procomp lift w/keys. This gives it 8" of suspension lift up front. In the back it has Procomp 4" springs w/4" blocks for a total of 8" in the rear. I had to have a custom driveshaft built for the rear. The front shaft was long enough. I also have a 3" body lift with the bumpers and nerf bars set to the proper position. This gives it a total of 11" of lift. I have a stainless steel Manik grill guard. The tires are 35" Pro comp Extreme AT's. I have also added a AEM air filter and dual exhaust. I had a heavy duty transmission built with a large transmission cooler. My next project is to get bigger tires. I want some 40's if they will clear, if not 38's. The rims I have are 16 x 8, so I will need new rims for the bigger tires, some 16 x 10's. After that some gears and a light bar full of lights on top. I still need to paint the under carriage, fender wells and frame to detail it out.

Holeshot- Rear traction/ladder/etc. bars would be a great addition. They look awesome, and help keep your driveline from getting pummeled too badly if you have to go over a log, or telephone pole, etc. They're roughly $300 for a decent set, and pretty much bolt on. Pro Comp makes them, but I'm not motivated enough to help you with a link. You've out-sexied my truck, so you don't get my help. Hm. [pouts]

Looks like my hoe right now. We had a brief rain shower last week, made a mess out of it. First rain after a long time is always dirty because it captures all the dust in the atmosphere. Plus my truck was dusty. Now it needs a real wash, which sucks because I can typically go a few months without actually washing it--I dust it every day, cover it over night, and use quick detail for touch-ups. One rain shower comes through and now it's a big brown turd. :Plugged:

Its pretty stock and I like it that way. (Wheels were installed by the original owner; I'm the second owner and I will more than likely keep this truck forever. When I'm done daily driving it, it will have a special place in my garage and become a weekend toy.

LOVE IT! I've been throwing around the idea of black wheels on mine and now know how good it would look. Mine is in my sig, the only difference now is that the pre-runner bar is line-x'd black. As a side note, I've always loved the 2dr SUVs. I started when I was a kid riding around in my uncle's '72 K5 Blazer so when I was looking for a Bronco in 2000 and saw this 2 dr Tahoe, I HAD to have it. 3 years ago, I bought an orange '72 K5 Blazer that I'm restoring. I hope to have it done in the next year.

Actually, my wheels aren't black but more of a deep silver. They are teflon coated and look like the inside of a frying pan. They match the grey in the truck perfectly too...almost like I planned it. I always wanted a K5 too, then as a work truck I had a white bronco and just could not live with out one after that.

Crazy exactly what I'm doing this week 992Door what's it look like underneath? Muffler or no muffler?? I was thinking of doing it like this. Headers - X Pipe - 3 Inch Pipe - dual in - single out. Do they make Dual in - Single out Mufflers ha? Or does that ruin the point of having dual exhaust? I'd think having dual exhaust like ===[muffler]--

992door
01-11-2010, 11:02 PM
it is the 5x8x14 magnaflow dual 2 1/2 in and single 3" out with 3" pipe ran from the muffler to the tip and it is a 4" tip 12" long

There is no need for an x-pipe if you are doing a DI/SO

I'd like to hear how that sounds. I was looking at the flowmaster 50 SUV since that was the only one that had dual 2.25" in to one 3" out but now that I know magnaflows are reversible and found that they have a 3 in to 2.25 out, which can be reversed, and is about $40 less, I'm leaning that way. BTW, do they make adapters so that I can get the same one you got dual 2.5s? My inlets are 2.25 right now. Does it sound better than the flowmaster? Is it better than the flowmaster?

992door
01-12-2010, 04:22 PM
I dont know if anyone makes an adapter for it the guys that put it on for me made some. I like it better than the 50 series it is more of a smooth sound.

BTW i got the muffler which is stainless for $70 shipped and the Magnaflow tip which is also stainless for $35

I will try to get a sound clip for you soon

I found Magnaflow part # 12198, same one you put on yours 992dr, on performance peddler for $73.34 with free shipping. I'll be buying it this Friday. Then it's time to start saving for some Pacesetters, Jegs has the ceramic coated headers for $421. If summit will pricematch, I'll go with them since I have a $20 voucher. I'll save as much as I can and use some of my tax return for those. Once I get them installed, it'll be time for the BB tune.

Not sure how it'll show up in my signature but, I just picked this one up Tuesday. I get a chance to clean it up I'll add better ones.

Damn newb, screwing up already.

Anyhow, 99 2dr, 2wd. All stock, just over 90k, cloth seats, barn doors. Replacing my 99 blazer (Trailblazer Package). I'll miss the 2 times a year I'd need the 4X4 but love this hoe already.

Love the stock look but as it sets next to the dually, I'm thinking a cowl hood might look good someday. And as usual my hillbilly self is thinking what a set of Telstars or custom centerlines would look like on it. I already keep that big bubble in the garage though so I don't have to change wheels on it.

Try not to give an old girl a hard time just yet, I know I'm the new kid but I'm pretty proud of getting this truck and am happy to find a place to get to talk about em.
