First time clayed pictures :)

Well as the title say's, this is the first time I have ever clayed anything. I am very impressed with the results also. It's crazy how much dirt can show up on the clay that is not visible by eye. Also had the windows tinted, and smoking visors put on since I last posted pics. Comments and suggestions are much appreciated.

haha yeah thanks. Oh yeah I forgot to ask. I have a scratch in the tailgate, and was wondering if buying scratch X or something would work, or if it was a waste of time. Here's a pic, I dunno if anyone will be able to tell by it but I figured it was worth asking.

There's a product at PepBoys auto called "5 minute scratch remover". It's a set of 5 pads and a drill attachment. Each pad contains some type of very fine mineral that will remove minor scratches, swirls, and oxidation. I used it last night on some minor tree branch scratches and it worked like magic. Just make sure you keep it semi-wet all the way through and don't stay in the same spot for long.

Depending on how deep your scratch really is, you might could consider buying a lens restorer kit that 3M makes. Autozone sells them. The good thing about this kit is it comes with an orange pad for buffing out scratches that attaches to any drill. I used this with a automotive paint scratch remover and it came out perfect. If you use a heavy compound, be sure to wash the pad with soap when you finish and let the pad dry overnight outside. Then follow up the area with a finer scratch remover, then a polish and finally a wax. Plus you'll have all the parts if you ever need to repair old faded headlights or corners.

Hey thanks for the info BOSS. I actually bought Meguiars Swirl X today to remove some smaller fine scratches and it worked great. I know exactly what lens kit your talking about also, I almost bought it today, but I was too tight.

Truck looks sharp, man. Good job on the clay work. As for the scratch, that's not coming out. From the looks of it, it's deep enough that the paint is gone and all you can do is go over it with touch up or have it completely repainted. You can buff out scratches in the clearcoat, but once the paint is gone, it's gone.

looks great man! Yea, agree with JK, that just looks too deep from the picture to buff out.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I guess I'll just get me some of that touch up paint they sell at walmart.

"Generally" speaking, if your fingernail gets caught in the scratch when you rub it - that shit ain't coming out!

Maybe it's the color of the pic but it has as white tint to it, there's a chance.....

True dat, paint looks great. There are some minor clear scratches it looks like but nothing that can't be fixed.

Paint is an easy thing to restore - I say that, but so long as there aren't huge dents, bird droppings eating through the clear, deep scratches....it's easy as long as you follow the steps correctly and put the time into it that is needed. I can remember when I used to detail luxury cars back in 1992 for money in college. I did all my cars by hand.....compound as needed, cleaner, swirl remover, polish, sealer and wax. By hand! and I would do a car in the am, one in the afternoon and one in the eve. Man I sound like a gen-X complaining about how good Gen-Y has it LOL! I got a REALLY strong WAX-ON/WAX-OFF in a street fight tho

Back in the early 90's, I paid $1200 cash for a built 1979 Firebird that looked like complete shit on the outside. I stripped that old oxidized paint etc and BAM! When I was done with all the steps, it was like a mirror! Later sold it for $3k...and I did nothing but the paint work. I think the technology has drastically changed but the principles are still the same....and steps are much easier with Porter Cables so readily available and cheap.

looks good!, i clayed mine for the second time last week and was amazed by how much crap had reappeared on it. did the camaro for the first time, it was horrible...

i still polish/wax mine by hand. can't wait to have the spare $ to get that PC buffer with all the rave reviews you guys have given it!

I plan on keeping it factory as of now. Just started college so moneys about to get tight. Ideally I'd love to get a smaller lift and some wheels and tires, tint the taillights and get some new headlights and clear corners. And thanks for the compliments.
