Ok, I think I'm behind the power curve on the corvette servo. I've noticed several guys have installed it. Basically, I know nothing about it. What are the benefits? oh and does it fit the 4.8? tell me whatcha know, I'm clueless lol

blueflamed03

yes, fits all 4l60E's, helps firm up the shift points, for firmer shifts...sloooooow shifts from the factory is mainly slippage, which leads to premature tranny failures.

You can get them for about $25 to $40.

good deal, thanks, any place in particular to get them at?

PS most tranny shops will install it realitively cheap, good time to change filter and fluid anyway.

So installing a corvette servo should prolong the life of the tranny?

Short answer, yup :waytogo:

So installing a corvette servo should prolong the life of the tranny?

yes sir. Firms up the shift...the lag between shifts, is smooth if your old and want comfort, but that lag is actually the clutches slipping...heat, burn, damage.

Chris

I havent yet but I will be either this weekend or next week, just be sure to seat the snap ring correctly when installing it. Heres a pretty good video, of course you wont need to remove the trans this is just to show you.

I took it in to have the tranny shop do it, change filter, and replace fluid...that's when they saw all the dust in the pan....so complete tranny rebuild...lucky I had 100% warranty :D

I did mine and am OK with it.

The biggest pains were the lack of room but it will come out and go in if yer sneaky, getting the servo cover off (mine was at 140k miles), and lastly getting all the parts lined up correctly and compressing the servo cover back on enough to get the snap ring seated all the way.

Take your time, think each move through and confirm each step when done and it's no big deal.

Okay I got my vette servo today and according to the write ups I need to rub a little fluid on the parts so bare metal doesn't touch bare metal, but where do I get some? Do I have to go buy some from auto zone or something?

i`ve been thinking about getting a servo for my yukon but i was wondering if i put one in how hard it would shift? when i got my blackbear tune justin maxed out my transmissions line pressure and it now has nice firm shifts. i just wanted to ask if anyone has both a bb tune and a servo and how hard the shifts are with both.

The 'Vette servo will only firm up the 1-2 shift. It won't make it bang, just a real good firm shift. Best bang for the buck mod out there. You should be able to buy the servo and both o-rings for under twenty bucks.

I have the 'Vette servo and BB tune, had the servo before the tune so it was tuned for the servo. If you put a 'Vette servo in it after the tune I think you would want to get a re-tune. Email Justin and ask him. He's real helpful.

I'll let someone else comment on the 4th gear servo, I have talked to some people who installed it also, but I'm not 100% on if its worth it or not. As far as putting some oil on the servo before install, run up to atozone and grab some trans fluid to add

Got the Superior Transmission super servo set, both 2nd gear and 4th gear apply with the cover. It was the best $110 part I've installed, took the laptop to it and turned the pressures down at part throttle so that 1-2 doesn't slam around town. But on WOT the belt screeches and the tires chirp on the 1-2 then the belt screeches again on the 2-3. Makes the vette servo look squishy. There is positive up and downshifting to all gears. Can't say enough good about it.

I like the smooth shifts in my 'Kon...but yeah they are slooooow shifts. What do you guys mean when you say "Firmer Shifts" Does it get me to go 0-60mph faster?

I like the smooth shifts in my 'Kon...but yeah they are slooooow shifts. What do you guys mean when you say "Firmer Shifts" Does it get me to go 0-60mph faster?the smooth shift you refer to, is actually slippage...slippage is heat on clutch packs, which is bad for tranny.
Firm, firms up the speed and intensity of the shift, less slippage.

ok i have a question that can hopefully be answered today

i have a sonnax 4th gear super hold servo that says it can be installed with the corvette servo

it says to change the servo pin or grind the tip of it to achieve desired pin travel
"typically .125" "

do i seriously, literally put on it on my grinder until its an 1/8 of an inch shorter? that just scares me

Built the same or better?

I just ordered the superior shift kit and super servo set, will update everyone...shop does alotta race engines so they won't work on it without hooking it up to the puter first and evaluating the trans while I drive around. They're telling me you may cause the tranny to wear out quicker by changing the servos out because there is a change in the dynamics of the tranny bc of the new servos?

you cant do the flush youself, that requires some vacuum equipment. However dropping the pan, changing the filter, and adding the RP should be good. (if you have a deep pan i think its like 5 quarts, 3.5 i think for a shallow pan... dont quote me on those though) Im pretty sure this job is a pain in the ass, if i recal, there are a few obstructions making the pan drop difficult

As for the servo, i have not done this yet as i am having some tranny issues i think, so i am holding off, however i have heard that it is a fairly easy and not to time consuming of a project.

Earlier this year, I tried to install my servo on my 2003 Yukon Denali b/c I couldn't get my @#%! heat shield off. So, I've had my servo sitting on my shelf since then. Coincidentally, this week, I called around local transmission shops to get quotes for the install. Here are my findings:
Shop1: $100 (but they barely spoke English, so I'm not sure they knew what the hell I was talking about)
Shop2: Refused to install customer-provided parts due to liability issues.
Shop3: (ie, Moore Buick Pontiac GMC Dealership): $428. No joke.

I guess my servo will be collecting dust for a bit longer.

I've uploaded a drawing of the heat shield for my YD:
http://i43.tinypic.com/16037mh.jpg

Other than the 2 bolts at the front of the heat shield, notice that there are two holes at the rear portion of the heat shield: Those 2 holes slip into exhaust hangers. If you check out the thread I posted, you'll see the challenge. Try creating a dummy email account with yahoo if you can register with your current email.

From what I hear, only the 6.0's with dual inlet mufflers have the shield that bolts to the exhaust (as well as the trans). The 5.3's have a smaller shield that only bolts to the trans.

i did it last weekend.....watched the video about 40 times just to have it kinda running through my head as i disassembled......easy as hell except its a small area to work in....once you get them all out clean the pieces that will be reused well and the bitch of it...is getting that spring and the fourth apply piston back in correctly...and then get it pushed back in throw all the pieces back in and when you get the cover back on i used the back end of a long flat head and applied pressure so i could get the snaplink back in....and here was my F up...i didnt ensure the snaplink was seated in the groove correctly....i pulled out of the driveway and drove down my street a few feet and it stayed in first....lost most of my tranny fluid and then the rest of it in my garage when i pushed back down my drive....double checked it...got it seated correctly and works great now....no tranny issues and a nice firm shift...just be careful and you should be fine....

Did the servo install this morning. Guys, this is a piece of cake. Biggst PITA is getting the snap ring back it(and not that hard) and getting the heat shield back on after driving arond and getting the cat hot. It took me a little over an hour and that's only because I was taking my my sweet as time so not to f-up. If I were to do it again i think it would take me 30 min or so now that I know what I am doing. If a shop quotes u more than $25-$30 punch them in the mouth.... This was a seriously easy job......

Naw, you might lose 1/4-1/2qt. Very minimal.
