:) sup guys,

new member here.
i recently acquired a 97 chevy tahoe, it came with a very old pioneer flip up stereo, so i bought a new non flip up stereo and took out the old one and put this new one in. now, my question is, i want to put a box and amp in the back (cargo area) maybe a couple of twelves. how do i approach all this by doing it myself?

RCA's and remote from HU, power wire direct to batt, ground by amp. New speaker wires to sub box.

no. power wire you'll run from the battery to the back of your truck. (direct from battery to amp) and the ground you'll just bolt to the floor. (direct from amp to floor)i used the rear seat bolton mine

yes the RCA's and remote wire (tells the amp when to turn on and off with the HU) from the HU (usually connect to the power antenna wire) to the amp.

i'll see if i start this project soon, i also heard you suppose to run the amp wires thru the middle of truck, speaker wires trhu left of side cause right side is were wiring harness runs. now do i have to remove seats and carpet to run the wires througout the truck? i was also planning on installing a monitor on the roof...seperate wires? differnt kind of stereo?:emotions122:

yeah you want to run the wires down either sides of the truck. never pulled apart a 4 door, but the panels come out of the side of a 2-door with the back seat folded down. was an easy couple hour project.

This picture might help some. You'll want to run your RCA cables from the headunit to the amp. RCA cables and all speaker wire goes on one side of the vehicle. Power wire and remote wire go on the other. The remote wire should be the blue wire coming from your headunit. Theres one with a stripe and one without. One is for a power antenna and the other is a remote wire but I'm pretty sure they serve the exact same purpose. Some thing aren't necessary in the picture aren't necessary such as a 2nd amp to power your speakers, capacitor etc.

i was able to install two twelves box and an amp, now all works great but when i go to start my truck it hesitates, i think it might be cause i need a higher output alternator?:mexsmoke:

dual batts ftw. batt>cap

that or go all out with dual batteries AND a big capacitor. Problem solved!

Search bro, search! This should be a perfect example of what you want to do. From what I've been told 90% of the time a capacitor might help with dimming lights and such but they put a ton of strain on your alternator and can cause premature failure. I would go with a 2nd battery and that SHOULD solve any problem you have.

That setup looks cool. I like the idea of having a backup and being able to jump start yourself lol.

http://98.196.65.94/dual_battery.htmlactually a good cap will not harm to alt. And how much it helps, depends on how big of farad it has.

OBS trucks have a nice little spot for a second battery on the opposite side of the battery. Its where i've got time. I assume its where they put the factory 2nd batt on the diesels.

my problem is not dimming lights and such.

just when i start truck is like i have a carburated engine, i have to keep on the gas so it stays on then it wont shut off. i will get a cap see how it responds...

make sure you use a properly sized fusable link on the power wire to the battery.

i installed the cap yesterday, the sound quality is alot more better then when it didnt have it before. but im still having issues upon start up mostly when its cold starting. im almost thinking it could be the alternator, would installing a high output alternator do the trick guys? i havent been able to post pics of the setup but i will soon!:ehcapt:

the system shouldnt really effect your starter.. the amps should be off when it starts, so theres no draw on the battery anyway..

raphy

so what do you think the problem is? just sounds like it needs help upon starting up
