rear end replacement

rear end in 99 tahoe is shot i can move d drive shaft up and down at d front of d rear axel, opened up rear diff and found metal chunks. im not trying to get bigger gears or disk brakes, i just need to find what is compatable to put n and any info on how to take it out and put one back n. whats a good course of action im a regular guy with a mortgage and kids i drive it back and forth to work just needing some info on how tto replace or fix.

I would recommend taking it to a specialist. You're gonna need at least new pinion seals/bearings/ u-joints. There's a good possibility you're going to need new gears too, and that can be a tricky job. I wouldn't recommend it to a first timer (especially anybody on a budget) because things can get quite expensive if something goes wrong.

You may also want to just consider replacing the whole rear end(with a refurb/ used one), but only if it comes in at a cheaper price than new gears.

Hit a JY for a low mileage replacement. Change fluid and bolt it in an go, for under 100$

14Bolt SF swap. Seriously. If your 10 bolt on (assuming) stock tires and wheels with (assuming) stock driveline had metal chunks in it, then I would not recommend a 10 bolt. At least, it's what I would do if it was me

But if you are doing this on a budget. Find a lower miles good condition 10 bolt and swap in. Change out cover gasket and new fluid. Replace any possible worn parts (seals and such). New ujoint and you should be fine.
