I replaced the power steering pump on my 2000 XL a couple weeks ago. I replaced the old with a reman Cardone unit.
Tonight I replaced that one with a GM power steering pump.
The Cardone Remanufactured pump was whining with RPM's.
My thought on buying remanufactured is now- DON'T. They were "cored" back to the supplier because something was wrong with them. My thought is that sometimes while they are being rebuilt, they miss the main reason why they were returned. Thus putting a bad unit back on the market.
Just my thoughts. Buy factory when it comes to the big things.
Also, a tech note. The 2000 XL came with an electrical connection to the high pressure line. It boosts the RPM's when turning. GM came out with an updated design that is a straight pipe that bypasses the electrical connection. Be sure and buy the updated design connection from GM when replacing your pump.
