Ok, I'll accept the laughter, ribbing, etc. if this post ends the way I am afraid it will...
I noticed this morning that my 02 Tahoe LT has heated mirror symbols on the mirrors themselves. So, I think, "cool, another option I didn't even realize I had." I look around - all over - inside for the switch that turns them on/off, but never found them.
So, while I can't believe GM would do it, did they install heated mirror glass on all Tahoes, regardless if the truck had the matching wiring / controls? Or, did someone replace these at some point in the truck's life? Or, more likely, am I freaking blind/ignorant as to where the switch is?

They turn on automatically when you turn on the rear defroster. There isn't a separate switch.
You're not going crazy, and you're not the first person confused by this. ;)

I couldn't figure it out when I first had my truck at first either, just push the button for the rear window defrost and they should work pretty fast!!

At the risk of sounding stupid, would it be possible to add heated mirrors and have them turn on like that? I have power mirrors already with the turn signals in them, but they don't have defrost feature. Thanks

dont leave the defroster on too long, youll end up burning up your mirrors. I see brown mirrors on the nbs trucks everywhere here.

I think the defroster turns off automatically after 20 minutes or so, don't remember off hand though!!

I would think you could if you knew how to wire the power for it to the rear window defrost circuit, only problem would be that you would have to replace your mirror glass with ones that had the defrost feature built into them.

Could it be the auto dimming part of them have gone bad? I've seen a few around here as well but always figured the auto dimming went bad! Maybe someone will chime in an enlighten this conversation!

Might be when the auto dimming fails. It'll leak fluid and discolor the glass.

Mine shut off automatically pretty fast sometimes. I'm not even sure it's a timer, it might be a thermostat controlled thing.
Dangit. Now I'm going to be totally obsessed about trying to figure this out now.
Someone who knows all please stop me with your wisdom....
