View Full Version : For Those who did the Escalade Mirror Mod.. Gauging Intrest?

As we all know, those of us who did the Esky mirror mod see that gaping wound between the lower window molding and the mirror, where the nice escalade trim used to set.

So, I was gauging interest... I am thinking of mass-producing paintable plastic inserts that "snap" into that hole and plug it and gives it a better fit and finish. Would anyone be interested in these? What would you consider reasonably priced?

There would be some research and fitment costs that I would need to recoup, but I think it would be worthwhile... :hmm:

There's no way you could modify the factory escalade window sill trim to fit the windows?

no, absolutely no way. I've already pulled apart an entire door, the doors are completely different as are the locations of the mounting tabs for that molding. They actually snap together with the molding on the inside of the window to create a clamshell of sorts, hard to explain. No way to do it. Even if you DID get the front door done, the rear door is 100% different as well, and there is no way to smoothly finish the rear chrome trim into the back portion of the window.

I'd probably pay very good money for these ... but I'm probably more OCD than most, so whatever I'd pay cut it in half for a reasonable target price. :)

Btw, an ever greater product to provide would be an aftermarket rear bumper hitch cover for base Tahoe/Yukon Hybrids.

Easy to design, cheap to make, and you'd have the market all to yourself.

How about cutting off the mounting tabs and using similar 3M adhesive used by the side mouldings to hold it in place? The esky window sill trim looks SOOOOO good...

uhhh... jerry-riggin isn't my forte, lol. Plus you still have the rear window/sill piece to worry about. Not like you can just "cut it off" and leave it there.

If you enlarge the pic, it's the little light colored spot at the bottom where the mirror sail molding meets the door sill:

In RL it's like a little grey/black foamy thingie. :)

did you not like it? any sound issues? because both of my mothers escalades had that damn wind noise. but my Denali doesn't hmm...

i honestly dont even notice the gap anymore...

As far as wind noise, has nothing to do with that gap. If the gap was facing into the wind, then yeah. Unless you are experiencing this wind noise doing like 45mph in reverse? :D

The gap just killed my OCD-ness. My escalade gets a little wind noise. I think it's bc of the window sill that goes around the exterior door windows. It's a plastic overlay that sits directly on top of the door so im guessing that's what is causing it.

I did the Esky mirrors to my Tahoe and that dam gap is driving me nuts. If you have done something let me know what you are asking for it. If not I'm going to see about doing something about it.

Probably not going to venture into this. Not enough demand.

Dang!
To be honest I'll be swapping them out with non escalade DL3 mirrors.
It bothers me that much. Lol

soulsea

Mmm, surprisingly it bothers me not ... or at least not nearly as much as that cheap textured plastic sail the base mirrors come with. Even on the Denali which is white I barely ever notice it anymore.

Folks can just buy the chrome overlays for their mirrors, should they not want the gap.

Here you go kids:

Blasphemy!!!

Plus they don't cover the cheap looking sails, in fact the contrast make it worse imo. :)

What is the big "upgrade" here?? I have LTZ chrome upper mirrors and would not think it would be worth going to all that trouble to reverse the chrome and have a better looking "sail". JMO, but some of these mods seem to be more trouble than they're worth.

SuperchargedSS

To each their own. Chrome made a huge difference. Much classier than our stock LTZ mirrors.

Agreed and I am not bashing anyone for their choice. My LTZ mirrors have chrome though. Is there that big of a diff between the esky and LTZ mirrors other than the chrome being at the bottom??

as the above poster stated.. they aren't textured plastic. They are painted smoothed black and just look 10 x's cleaner.

Yeah, I parked next to one at work yesterday after lunch and they are much nicer. Can't imagine that mod being less than $500 with paint though.....

They come painted like that. I bought one of my mirrors for $80 off a wrecked escalade and the other for $150 on eBay.
