I would like it if you could lower the thread count to be able to sale in the classifieds...I read more than I post because most information is out there if your willing to search, so 80 post is a big number for me to get up to before I can sale something...

I think the best thing I get from these forums is the detailed how to's that members post regarding upgrading or repairing their Tahoe/Yukon. Share your questions and experience, and most of all your sources for parts and know how. I've learned a lot reading them, and it is what I find the most useful.

Personally I think the pictures in the signatures needs to go. They take up too much space when your trying to scroll through a page. Im a member of another forum Layitlow.com and i have 50,000 posts, so i have plenty of experience of reading forum pages. The pics make it time consuming. If you click the persons name that should take you to their personal page in which there should be a spot that a picture could be posted besides the available avitar spot. Its redundant seeing the pics over and over again!!

I think that sig pics should be limited to 640x180 or something, a little banner at the bottom is okay, but a full res wallpaper with a 25 line list of mods gets to be excessive. I like seeing people's custom trucks, but not in every post of theirs.
I also would like a "Performance Mods" sticky. I'd like to see people post up a quick review of a product and their opinions with a format to make info easily accessible. The information is already here on the forums, it's just scattered. A sticky compiling the info would make things much easier on newer members or those that aren't good with the search function.
IE:
Product: Spectre CAI for '01 Denali
Price: $100
Pros: Easy installation, picked up 1mpg, better throttle response
Cons: Included filter was junk, replaced with a K&N, much better
Difficulty: 2/10
Comments: Inexpensive HP gain, well worth the money

The point of this is so that the member is known around here and not just signing to dump a part off and then never be heard from again. I like this rule and vote to keep it for the good of everyone. There is always ebay and craigslist if you just need to sell something.
there is a lot of space if the right where the vendors ans sponsors. Maybe relocate that into a banner along the top and extend the viewing width?

^^^ this
I see this forum as a place for enthusiasts of these vehicles first.
Then as we do our mods the opportunity to sell each other parts we don't need is greatly appreciated in the context that we already know and trust each other through our discussions.
If you reduce the post threshold all that will happen is a dilution of trust and a potential dumping ground for parts ... keeping track of who is trustworthy becomes an ordeal that will require more effort than it is worth.
If anything I'd raise the post/time requirement ... but it seems to work perfectly as it is so I can't think of a reason why one should change it at all.
2 cents.

^+1 to yates. smaller sigs, his size is perfect with 2 lines under it. When people keep entering 5000 lines of garbage mods, then its no fun lol
Id rather see the post count for the sale threads actually go higher and maybe have to be a member for at least a month. This way it gives them time to learn the site, stay a while and gives us more protection :)
Also we need a badass favicon!!!!! (small icon next to the website)
Other then that, great job Shaggster, love the site!
Think we should try a new Color scheme. Blue and black is kinda boring now. Maybe try black and green? Or something new

Only thing I would change is the "search" results -- if they could reflect which years forum they're from, that would be really helpful.
For instance, if I search for "best Tahoe lowering kit," then I'd prefer that the results not just say "General Discussion," but rather "General Discussion -- 2007+" (or something like that). Currently, unless I'm missing it, there's no indication of which YEARS forum the result is coming from, and it can be a waste of time clicking on returns that don't pertain to my year truck.
Can this be done?
Thanks,
-Kirk
PS -- I'm really glad this site exists. Many of us came from the other Tahoe site, and now that place is completely dead. Thanks for keeping this place alive and well!

YES! It's really tough to search accurately on this forum, I think improving the search function would reduce the amount of redundant threads.
Also, I completely agree with SOULSEA on the post count for the for sale section. If someone is just trying to sell something quick use Ebay or Craigslist, otherwise let the members who've established some rapport within the forum help each other out.

I would like to see the signatures be simplified to take up less space, improved search engine for finding more of what I am looking for and less of what does not pertain to what I am looking for, a better color scheme, less garbage on the pages from selling add space. Gives users a way to have photos to share, but without cluttering up the posts, at the same time allow users to post pics when doing a step by step process that is not overwhelming.

Selling ad space is what is helping pay for the site. Even with some of us becoming supporting members the site still needs a steady flow of money to operate and I'm sure Shaggy likes the money to upkeep the server, buy nachos at the gas station, etc.

Could we maybe indicate years or obs/nbs/nnbs in the forum column on the new posts page?
So instead of a forum reading 'General Discussion' it would read 'General Discussion 00-06' or 'NBS General Discussion' ... I think it would avoid folks starting a thread in the wrong forum when they use that link as a shortcut, and it would also avoid idiots like me posting an answer to a question without realizing I'm way off cause I'm in the wrong section. :)
Thanks.
ETA: Also this could be achieved by adding another thin column next to 'forum' indicating what year range that thread applies to.

Your rules on number of messages required to place an item in the for sale or ebay item is too high.
Some people like to come here and read posts but may not have information to add that would be worthwhile. In order to be able to use some features of your site I need to leave a bunch of messages, worthless or not just to be able to post.
The only people who loose are the members, I have a Genuine GM Evaporator that I am just about giving away that I can't offer to my brothers here because of these rules. As a result I needed to list it on ebay.
Consider lowering this number, if someone is abusing the privledge suspend their account.

Thank you Timmmmaaaayyyy for at least giving an answer to this (more then I can say for the admins). Please answer a question though, the ads were not there previously so does "we're trying to come up with a solution that appeases everyone involved" mean that they are trying to come up with a way to shove more advertising in the face of supporting members but in a less obtrusive way? Have they checked into subliminal messages?
Thank you again Timmmmaaaayyy ♥♥♥

Currently all links are via vigilink which makes money for the site, but as of now both jacob and myself are conferring with shaggy about the ads as I think it deters member involvement as well as supporters in the future.
And Derek, it also shows up for mods, not just members.

I would like to start out by say I ♥ you Tiiiiimmmmaaayyyy not only for taking the time to read and answer my qualms. I understand that I am not the only member experiencing this but I am the only one who will say something. I understand Shaggy's desire to raise his profit on the site as he does work hard on it but I am supporting the site by a donation and buying from vendors as I can. I feel no need at this point to donate again because every time I look at the site he is already making money off me so at this point I will not donate again and could careless if he takes my donating status away. I also noticed he is not doing this on GMFS and it leads me to believe that he knows that they would not stand by and let him spam them with ads but knows that this forums members are a more subdued crowd to changes. I personally feel that this is not the only but is the only forum spamming donating members and I will eventually get annoyed enough to leave (and have spent more time on other forums). I believe that other members feel the same way whether they will publicly announce it. I really liked this forum and members, and planned on staying on as a donating member no matter what I drive but as the forum stands now that does not look to promising.
To Shaggy and the other admins,
I realize I am only one member and that the site will continue on with or without me but I feel that I am not the only donating member that feels a little used that we donate to help the site and then get spammed so you can make more off us. Feel free to ban me or whatever for not agreeing but I feel strongly about this and will not just sit quiet. I really hope you strongly consider what I am saying because TYF is one of the best forums with the best group of members that usually stick around once they visit but this is not the TYF that you previously offered.

Let me tell you how stupid this is ...
On forums in which I am a member I disable adblocker because out of principle I believe that if not intrusive to the user experience, every forum owner should have the opportunity to generate revenue for their effort and investment.
Adblocker is now on for tyf and now I see none of your ads, I see no links to tyf official vendors, I just see content. So quite frankly this affects me little to none at all.
This will drive people either away, or to use adblockers ... so having more ads as you have done will only result in less ad revenue.
Internet Marketing 101 class dismissed.

What ads are you guys talking about? When do you guys see them? The only advertising I'm seeing is on the right, below the vendors links and the only one I see is the GMC Certified Service one. I'm not a supporting member, so figured I'd at least see the same amount if not more, just asking for clarification!
To add to this conversation, I do believe that a supporting (donating) member should be excluded from additional advertising if that's what they are wanting, it should at least be an option if not turned off all together!

OK.
To put this to rest, the ads are part of a new add-on that has been installed, but not setup completely. In the near future, Shaggy will configure so that supporting members and staff will no longer see that ads. Guys, I simply ask that you bare with us until the overall changes are put into motion and then we'll see where the outcome of this is.
ALSO. Yates, we don't wanna see you leave and would NEVER ban you over an issue such as this. Again, i plead that that you give it a couple of days until everything can be configured to how it's supposed to be.

Holly crap batman! I am gone a day and I get blasted because of the few ads that are showing on new post section, which btw I had no intention on putting ads in the new post section. After I fixed the error(Wednesday morning) , I looked at the forums(not the new posts section) to see if everything was working again. Everything seem to be fine, no ads showing but the side bar ad. I never looked in the "new post" section and I shut down my computer and was out the door and wasn't back on till now(Thursday Night), I haven't been on for well over 24 hours so give me a break here guys. Serious. The ads are taken down. I can't believe you guys went off like this though. It was a mistake and you all make it sound like I have always been an asshole admin. Thanks guys! :nono:

Shaggy, that's the problem with opinions. Everybody has one. Do I find ads annoying? Absolutely. Did I see a need to say anything? No. Business Management 101 tells us that change will not be easily accepted by all people. Understandably, the ads in the New Post tab were an accident, however I don't think the concerns of a few represent a whole forum blowing up at you. This is absolutely my most favorite forum. It's very organized and the other users are great people. This is why I am a contributing member. Although I agree with the people that voiced their opinions, I'm very happy to see that it was all a mistake. Thank you for ensuring that TYF remains as awesome as it is.
Derek, please come back. I really missed you yesterday. It just didn't feel right not having you here.

Shaggy I don't think that is a fair representation of what happened.
Those who protested were informed by Timmy that he was discussing the issue with admins to try and get it resolved ... he did not specify whom, but it was not an unfair assumption that you were a part of that conversation. Which would indicate to the members that not only you were aware of the ads, but that they were placed there intentionally.
No biggie as I guess it was a misunderstanding, but based on the sequence of events, it wasn't an issue of folks thinking you've always been an asshole ...
Group hug?
I'll get Yates from under his bed ...

Shaggy let's be honest, the error was caused by adding in the ad software. I am glad to see that you removed it for the people who give money to the site. You may have been gone the last day or so but my frustration comes in with no admins acknowledging the problem even though they viewed the thread. I have noticed that the admins are quick to come on and take credit but not when someone is upset. I am sure I could have handled my response to the changes better but so could have the admins. If you want to make the site more profitable them by all means it is your right like I said before I am one member and all I have to do is logout.
