Shout Box Needed!

Just thought I would mention that it really made my boards in the past amusing to have a shoutbox, same rules apply as posting.

It's a java based window that's embedded in the top of the board screen at all times. It's kinda like a chat going with every member on the board with a scrollable history, but you can only post every 30seconds or whatever delay the admins set it to. You as a user can close it on your own screen if you don't care for it.

Does the chatroom hover at the top of every screen like the shoutbox? That's what I like about the SB, it lets you monitor the shouts and surf the site at the same time. It's feeding our ADHD!

I think a shout box would be cooler than a Chat room. I have never heard of one and want to try it out. I could whore it up and not be a pain in the ass to people on the forum ( I know it does not add to post count, I just like talking).

on one forum i'm on, the shoutbox sees all the action and the chat room never gets used. the shoutbox basically turned into a chat room that shows up on every page. makes it alot easier to browse forums and keep up with convos at the same time. theres only like a couple second flood control on it so it stays decent paced if people are on

If one or the other gets added my choice would be shoutbox. The chat room is a decent idea but I never open them whereas the shoutbox I will read as I'm going through posts and put my .02 in.

Naw, you would be suprised!! With all these guys that wanna put some good knowledge in writing when they come up with it, it will still get posted up for us all to enjoy!! It's a killer thing to have a shout box, if someone has a quick question, I've seen on other sites that they can get it answered fast and then later they come back to write it up for others to learn off of, seen it a ton of times, including by me!! Plus, it would be fun to talk to you other guys without having to do it through pm or post and wait, real time is cool!!!

I see what you are saying, but truth is most everyone uses it for bs'ing around...I personally will ask the mod team to monitor the box and ask that technical discussions be taken to forum.

Nice work Shaggy!!! I love it!!

A couple of thoughts:
-Can it be made to be on every page on the site instead of just the main page, as long as there is still an option to turn it off that is!!
-Option to change the height of the box, dragging it or pushing a button to make it taller or shorter
-Option on the each shout we write that we can erase what we wrote (clicking on an X or something next to the shouts I write)

Ok chat box loads on every page now, if it causes too much server load I will only make it available on certain pages.

Also investigating allowing users to close it if they dont want to see it on their own browser.

There is a way to shut it off if that's what you are wanting, its the dot in the upper right hand of the shoutbox, next to the 11px box!!

Otherwise, it's lookin good!

Yep, just click on the top right diamond looking yellow image to the right of the text size box and it will collapse the chat box.

Ok I have a problem with the shout box. When on small screen I can hit enter or the arrow to send what i want for all to see but when I enlarge the screen when i hit enter it goes to the next line and when i hit the arrow it comes up with a error saying token missing. Any ides on what i can do to get the larrger screen working?

I don't know what the solution would be at the moment. What I would suggest is clearing your history/cookies etc for your browser and restarting it.
