Well, my truck didn't come with key fobs. Took it to the local GMC dealership to have some programmed, and they tell me the fobs won't take the programming for some reason, most likely a bad BCM, but they we're 100% sure. They wanted like $500 to fix it, which may or may not have solved the problem. Sooooo.....fuck that.

Since I know dick about electronics, I was wondering: does an aftermarket alarm with keyless entry utilize the BCM to function the same way that the factory fobs do? Or is it a standalone system that taps in somewhere else?

I've had the beast for 2 1/2 years, and I'm really starting to miss the keyless entry lol....but it's not worth the price of the getting the BCM fixed. Not right now at least.

Since you have a 2000, the door locks are on a standard positive trigger relay system. Any aftermarket alarm/keyless will operate the locks with no problem. The factory keyless module is located in the BCM, that could be what they meant by saying it was bad. But if the whole BCM was bad you would more than likely be having other electrical issues.

Heh, I was looking at some Clifford stuff on the CT website today. Ideally I'd want the setup to be keyless/alarm/remote start. Thanks for the hookup man, I'll talk to him and see what my options are.

I need new audio too...the stock speakers and HU suck balls. I've got a Rockford Fosgate Power T1 sitting in a box on my closet floor, brand new never hooked up. Got it when I had my honda though...not sure where to put it in the Yukon. Might sell it to fund speakers and whatnot, I'm not really into bass/subs anymore.

Yeah I'm pretty sure thats what the deal is, it's gotta be just the keyless portion of the BCM. I have no other electrical gremlins that I can think of. Good to know that the aftermarket stuff will work though, thanks!
