ive been on performancetrucks.net all morning and they got some good stuff. I got some studying to do haha. So far on my wish list, i want a 80mm throttle body plus an 80mm intake manifold. Currently i have a stock 5.3. i still wanna do intake and cam and a bunch of other stuff. haha idk what to get first

headers and tune.
Then cam, gears, small TB stall.

You already have a 78mm tb, no reason to upgrade unless you do a heads/cam package. Start with some longtube headers and a torque converter to match the cam you want, then get that bitch all tuned up.

im going for a BB tune in a couple weeks. Intake should be going on shortly and i was gonna do a flow 50 cat back. Im pretty good with engines but i never understood what a stall was. i saw that people had them from 1600 to 4000. what do they do?

The cam i was looking at was a TR224, i heard good things about and saw some pretty good improvements in power

typically a 2000-2600rpm stall works best on these big ass trucks, depends if you still want to tow anything.

IMHO, the TR224 is a healthy cam, but look at the Comp 212 or 218 grind. More of a low end grunt cam, and a Trail Blazer stall. Can get relatively cheap, and will do just fine behind that cam.

thanks guys. i really dont wanna mess around with the trans cause thats not really my forte' haha. it is possible that i can run these parts with a stock trans. As of right now my tahoe is a tow rig for my boat while im looking for a Dmax. Heres my plan

Spectre intake with new MAF
Cam
Cat back flow 50
BB tune
vette servo
P/P throttle body (maybe)

I also heard that these motors are compatable with LS parts im just unsure which ones. I heard that people use Z06 valve springs and rockers with a new cam to keep the cost down, correct my if im wrong,

What kind of numbers would i see with this set up?

No need for an aftermarket MAF - that much I have learned. Unless yours is messed up, spend that money on a tune instead - they can tune your stock just the same. JennaBear has a good explanation of this.

As for the vette servo, how many miles does your hoe have? You tow alot? I'd be careful with that personally, it changes the pressure dynamics on shifts and you could end up in a situation where your tranny craters.

I tow alot more then i should be. Its a 24 whaler that weighs almost 8000lbs. i got twins on the back some almost 1000lbs are over the rear axels. The truck is less then a inch from the bumpstops in the rear and the front has no upward travel. Tommorwo im going to an auction for my company and gonna try to pick up a nice Dmax. i wanted to new coils and airbags but my dad is ignorant and thinks its fine. Haha if i do any mod to the sus. i have to sneek it in haha its pathetic i know.

what i was thinking for the BB tune i was gonna have him do a performance tune and just leave my tow/ haul mode alone. Is that possible. Ive seen people have it the other way around but i need that setting

I forgot, my truck has 135,000+ miles, this boat is killing it bad

well i got some good insperration like 10min ago, i saw a riced out civic on the road and i decided to follow it. It was an older bubble with NO interior haha, just a seat. the kid also had an exahust from what i saw. I gave him a signal behind him while on a on ramp for a high way. I had tow/haul mode on and was in first doing about 25mph, he pulled slowlly and slowled down to 40. this forced me to go into 2nd which is no balls. I hear him finally pull for real and i had to shift down to first and work my way back up again. I started to gain on him as we aproached 80. I wanted to do another pull from 50 so i can get high rpm in 2nd but he got off the exit. I was pissed that i lost to a ricer haha. i need to go faster .

So whats the deal with the TB converter? Can you still do mild towing with it? My LQ4 just arrived at the warehouse yesterday, so I'm putting together my list of goodies for it (didn't come with the trans unfortunately, but I'll beef up the 4L60E before the new motor goes in).

Right now I'm thinking LPP longtubes w/ Y pipe, a cam of some flavor (I'll be doing a supercharger eventually I think, so it's gotta be boost friendly), AEM intake, Magnaflow catback, and now maybe the TB converter. Anyone got any suggestions on a cam thats good with a force fed engine?

TR220 or TR224 sounds like a good 6.0 cam for NA.

well, i can shed a LITTLE light....

first you need to get rid of the restrictive intake air setup, replace it with almost anything that isnt stock and you are good. Also, work on that stock exhaust setup, cat-back is prolly the best first round choice. Once those are done, get a custom PCM tune. If you can, i would also recomend getting the e-fans prior to your tune.

after that your truck will be "awake" for sure, and you will have a new love in life... spending money on that 'hoe.

Long Tube headers and a Cam is a super nice round two, if you can manage, a shorter stall with that, then a re-tune.

At this point your truck will drive really nice indeed and you will have spent a pretty penny....

round three is a choice i suppose, because at this point you are talking about adding a lot of power and stress to your drive-train. But you could get a supercharger, or maybe some new heads and throttle body, maybe a nitros setup, lots of options....

When you start getting into the higher horsepower mods (large cams, FI, lots of nitrous, etc) remember that the weak link on these trucks is the transmission. Either buy a built up trans, or you better have cash ready for a rebuild. It will grenade sooner or later.
