Because you can get a ne and most likely better one from aftermarket......Airaid, Afe, Green, K&N, Injen, True Flow, S&B, Volant and many more all make some good ones.
I want to order one too but deciding is hard, do know it has to be a dry filter as the oiled ones involve alot of BS!
Also I don't want it to have a cover as I want it loud and notciable, I have narrowed it down to mainly aFe as its is affordable and good, check it out!

The GM one is pretty loud w/ the lid on.
Without a lid, wouldn't you just be sucking hot underhood air in?

Yeah w/o a lid CAIs do just suck in alot of hot engine air, that is unless it has the sealing design that isolates it from engine air when closed like Airraid uses.

Does it seal to the underneath side of the hood then?

Yeah it does, AfE intakes do also.
If you look at the pic of them installed you will see how it can do that with the top liner it has.

well at least its legit... 175 is a bit steep for a used intake.
