Swapping to a set of decent aftermarket spkrs will make a slight improvement. For the best bang for your buck w/o swapping the stereo, I'd go with at least a 2 ch amp to power a set of aftermarket front spkrs. If budget allows, go with a 4 ch and power four new set of spkrs. Adding an amp will make an exponential improvement over just swapping in aftermarket speakers.

I called Crutchfield Audio for a new set-up for my 2001 Tahoe. They set me up with a set of Infinity speakers and a Kenwood head-unit W/ a Ipod connect and CD and AM/FM Radio. Call them up and tell them what you are looking for.

talk with a local professional shop for best pricing and customer service before going online and not getting any installation service.

This is an option but around here a local shop will rip you off. I would buy Crutchfield over anything. You get great customer service and you get vehicle specific instructions to install your stuff. You will save money using Crutchfield.
