View Full Version : Black light housings on a lightered colored vehicle?

Anyone running black headlight/bumper light housings on a lighter colored tahoe or yukon? I've been thinking about going with Denali projectors for my truck, but the OEM ones are crazy expensive, and all of the aftermarket ones are totally riced out with LEDs and halos and all of that crap (no offense if you like those or are running them...just not for me).

The only aftermarket company that puts out a really nice OEM looking product without the excess junk is DEPO. Their lights look extremely nice, but the housings are black...I can't seem to find any chrome ones from them. So, that got me thinking - get those black projectors ($135.99 for the pair was the best price I could find), get some black bumper lights, and find some smoked LED tails that will actually fit my barn doors (if such a thing exists), and get my windows tinted.

My truck is pewter metallic so I originally thought that black housings wouldn't look that good...but after thinking about it a little more, I don't think it would look all that bad as long as I did all of the lenses the same way. Plus, it would be a little different. With the tinted windows and a black brush guard (also on the wishlist), I think there would be enough black accents on the truck to tie everything together and really make it look nice.

What say ye, 'o members of TYF?

Depo doesn't make chrome ones for your truck, or just can't find them anywhere?

You can always check with the guy I got mine from off eBay (onlineracer, i think), see if he can order them in chrome for you. Heck, they were drop shipped from the distributor when he sent them to me, so I gotta believe he can get them if made.

for a tad bit more you can get oem denali projectors used for around 200. I sold a set at the first of the year for that quickly!

I think itd look pretty good, dont see a whole lot of lighter colored trucks with the dark housings/ lenses, if you can try to get both heads and turn/day time running lights thru the same company so the tint will be as similar as possible, be easy to thro it off with black heads and greyish bumper lights......maybe a black gmc logo on the grille just to finish it off?

Yeah, I was thinking about getting either my stock GMC logo painted black, or maybe getting a black mesh grille insert from Denaligrill.com that says "YUKON" in chrome. I figure that since my truck already has a bunch of chome on it, the black and chome grille insert would compliment everything else.

I might still try to find the OEM projectors, but I figured that I'll at least explore the idea a little and see what you guys think. Personally I think it would look pretty slick, but my mind's eye vs how it looks in the real world might be different.

Another dilemma I've run into is that I can't find ANY aftermarket tail lights that will fit my rig since I have the barn door models. If anyone can point me toward some options, that would be great. Worst case is that I steel wool and scuff my stock tail lights, and throw some VHT nightshades on them to darken them up a bit. They're old and could use a new outer coat anyway.

IF you do go with the dark hl then for sure darken the tails!

Yeah, thats true. I forgot about that. It's a little different though since his denali is white...it's kinda like black rims; they look great on black trucks and white trucks, but on other colors they can be just so-so, or downright bad looking lol.

I guess the same principal applies here. I might see if I can get a couple good pics of my truck and have my sister in law photoshop the lights in - she's a whiz with that stuff.

Hit up Big Tap I noticed his barn door tahoe was rocking LED tails when he posted up his fresh paint job pics. I imagine is doesn't take too much work to get any aftermarkets to fit.

This is what you need for barn yard doors.

Heh thanks guys, I actually read his thread the other day and saw that he had those LED tails, and shot him a PM yesterday about it. :)

He hasn't gotten back to me yet, but now I at least know what to look for on e-bay.
