as somoe may have read, im havin a trouble with the 1345 code. finally found our what it is...i ordered a aftermarket billet distributor. well, apparently is isnt allowing enough turn (clockwise/counterclockwise) to adjust the offset to 0* the lowest it can go is 12* retarded.
my thoughts to avoid having to spend more money on this F*&@ing problem is to file down the slot where the hold clamp goes on the distributor to allow for more turning of the distributor. what do you think?? any advise or words of wisdom? thanks!

Who set the base timing when it was dropped in?? I bet it's off ...

i origanilly did everything to the point of getting the offset adjusted. i talked to the guy who worked on today and he said he re-stabbed the distributor multiple times and tryin to get the offset adjusted to 0* he said he even tried setting it on different teeth. after 3 hours, 3 of the mechanics came to the conclusion that the distrubor just doesnt have enough play to turn it counterclockwise to bring it down to 0*

The rpm was raised to at least 2000 rpm when measuring correct? What reading did you get back at your closest point?

yeah, the guy who was working on it told me what he did, and basically was step by step fronm what i've read on the procedures. but i think i found the problem, the distributor came with a new hold down clamp and its kind of a "fork" style and it wouldnt let the distributor turn, so i put the factory hold down clamp back on and now it can turn left or right. so im taking in back so he can try it agian. hopefully i'll have some good news today and can lay this problem to rest

I knew there was something I was forgetting to write about. I lapsed and forgot to mention the clamp. Noticed that on the MSD units. :sorry:

no worries man. when they told me it was the distributor, i had a hard time believing that. i went to sleep thinkin about other reason why it wouldnt advance and remember the clamp being funny...i knew i should have stuck with the factory clamp when i intalled it:Stupid Me: so this is an issue with the msd distributors also?? good to know it wasnt just me

Maybe. Look at the picture below. Is has square ends but notice the clamp is installed lower. Have not gotten one my self yet but saw that may it is possible to be installed different ways for whatever reason. Maybe I am just confused.

:doh2: did it again. I am so entrenched in research for my truck that I am messing up with things related to the truck.

thats it, thats what my hold down clamp looks like. the factory clamp holds just the base allowing it to turn. hopefully my buddy can squeze me in today and dial in the offset.

I'm not seeing how that clamp limits rotation ...

excuse my artistic ability...
the clamp slides around the square part of the distributor where as the factory just goes around the base of the distributor

Ohh I didn't realize the Vortecs had a square base like that ...

maybe it is just being installed or displayed incorrectly.

offset procedure done! the hold down clamp was the issue. now to figure out the misfire. it has new rotor, cap, wires and plugs. maybe the coil??, maybe the infamous injector poppets?? another day another thread....

Loose wire?? Mine keeps popping in and out of closed loop mode, I have a plug that isn't quite right on the spark plug.

well, apparently its in multiple cylinders. i could have sworn the guy named off the even #'ed cylinders. so thats leading me to believe an o2 sensor?? i think i might seafoam it and see what happens. it has 203k, so it would hurt to do a little internal cleaning

Heated O2 sensors are only good for about 100K from what most say ...

i think i might be adding those to my shopping list then. after looking, everything still looks like the original. any preffered brand on the 02 sensors?

A o2 sensor or heater circuit problem would have a code. Use a scanner and read the cylinder misfire history. If you seem to have stable misfire ratios from one cylinder to another then chuck your spider. It is at the end of it life by now probably.
