So I finally got a day off from work and decided to finally remove my side moldings from my 2008 Yukon. Now just a quick write up on how to do (sorry no actual pics of the steps i took, just of the finished product):
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
-Heat Gun
-Latex Gloves
-A good amount of lint free towels
-Remote Control Car/plane nitro gas
-Car Wax
-Buffer
-about 4 and a half hours of your spare time
-Movie tickets for your wife/gf
Step one: Heat up one of the ends of the moldings, and start to peel it up as you heat the glue underneath. This will cause some of the glue to come off with the molding but some will stay on the car.
Step Two: After removing all the moldings off all four doors, use the nitro gas (found at hobby shops that sell remote control gas planes and cars) This is safe for your car paint and pretty much melts the sticky tape off of your vehicle. The trick is to SOAK i mean SOAK the towel with the nitro gas and start rubbing off the tape, this easier said then done but it deff. helps ( i tried goo gone and about 10 other products and no cigar!) MAKE SURE TO WHERE THE GLOVES! your hands will burn from the gas if not!!!! After removing all the tape could take up to 2 hours!! wash your car or at least the parts that the gas was on to remove gas off vehicle paint.
Step Three:Apply a good amount of wax onto the parts where the tape/moldings use to be, with a buffer start to buff out the area applying a good amount of pressure to the buffer, let the wax sit for a little and remove with a soft cloth. This should help remove any shadows of the tape/moldings and will shine up that part of the car to hopefully match the color of the rest of the door.
Step Four: shower and pass out! This isnt easy but worth it! I love the way it looks below are pics before and after, Hope this helped!
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGES DONE TO YOUR CAR FOR ANY REASON! JUST A WRITE UP TO LET YOU KNOW HOW I DID IT! THANKS!

to me it looks so much better i love the look, plush smooth.....yeaaahhhhhh sexy!!!
I'm a little suspicious of this nitro gas being paint safe? If it burns your hands, isn't that a good indication that it could possibly damage the clear coat?

I had that exact same feeling when i was told to use that, but after deciding i felt ballsy and went ahead n did it what i did was right away washed the car really really good, then the next day i took a buffer and bufffed the whole door and the paint/clear coat is smooth and with no discoloration at all. So idk if i got luckey or it really works. I was told paint safe.

looks really good man a whole differnt truck
In AZ we can just go pull them off (if they are not falling off). It is SO FREAKING HOT HERE! Looks better. You can lower the back but put tow bags back there. I have don that on a few of my rides over the years.

Haha so true. Just let it sit in the sun a few hours and remove away!

I absolutely think it would look a million times better! Then again I've always preferred a debadged clean look.

I debated taking mine off 3 years ago, but was afraid it wouldn't look right being that there is no body line in the lower part of the door like the 00-06's. I debadged it but left the moldings on..well that was until yesterday...went out and ripped them right off...used some Xylene to wipe it clean of residue...they were actually starting to fade...gone now and looks much cleaner.

Nice job, but in my opinion it now looks more like a base model Yukon..

I like the way it looks with it on and off. I think some colors look better with it off than others. Thats just my opinion though. I used some fishing cord to cut away the glue holding the moldings to the door. Then some wonderful stuff called Goof Off... It makes it much easier to wash and wax now. Looks good though. Now all I need is a good drop kit. Anyone recommend a certain company/brand and what would be a good size to do as well. Thanks.

Very good job. No problems with the paint? I prefer the moldings myself, but I have the chrome also. It looks good, different...

i used a 3m decal/pin stripe remover rubber wheel. The tool is about 20 dollars and carried by must auto body suppiy shops. Way easier then rubbing over the glue back and forth and no chemicals needed just wax.

Don't use the chemicals. Heat gun, and a 3M eraser wheel. wash, wax and you're done. 30 minutes a side.

I love the look, nice and clean, i actually asked the dealer for no molding on hoe when I bought her, and that's exactly how they delivered her to me. Clean, i have an o7, but during this last 3 years, aholes, have nicked my door, left and right, now i have dimples on every door, so now I'm looking into buying the moldings for her. just be careful where you park. otherwise great job

strike-off wheels are def. the way to go! use these about once a week and my fingers would be half the length without one!

Took me about 30 mins total. I used the eraser wheel. No need for all those harsh chemicals.

Here is how I did mine;
1. Wash and dry the area above and below of the moulding before starting. Use min 20 lb monofiliment fishing line. Cut about a 2 ft length.
2. Using 2 fingers, run the line behind the moulding and "saw" back and forth all the way down the moulding. Don't saw too fast or the fishing line will heat up too much and break. Just a steady pace.
3. After your done sawing, grab the moulding from one edge and pull it off. Should come off very easy.
4. If you plan on keeping the mouldings or selling them, quickly store them on a flat surface so that they maintain there shape.
5. Wash the area where the moulding was to remove any loose dirt which may have been behind the moulding. It is very important to do this before moving on. Rinse and dry with a towel.
6. Use the 3M wheel on a drill motor. Use the slowest setting on the drill. Do spin at a high speed. Work slowly across from one end to the other. I use my right hand on the drill and my left hand on the chuck to keep a constant pressure on the paint.
7. After removing the foam tape with the wheel, use some 3M adhesive remover (aerosol). Spray on the paint and wipe clean with a clean towel.
8. Use a pure polish next to rub any stains which may exist on the clear coat. When moulding has been on the paint for a while, the dirt will leave discolored lines. They will rub out easliy with a pure polish. I use Zaino AIO paint cleaner. Works great.
9. Final step is to wax the entire area.
These steps are the same for lettering and also emblems.
As stated before, the Chevy bowtie in the back is clipped and recessed.
I have done multiple vehicles with the above methods.
