I can push the parking brake down a couple clicks, and it goes off, but then i have the idiot light on, on the dash. How do I get them off, properly?
Dang bro, on the 00-06 we use the cabin override button by the lights. Push it in,out - in,out and it shuts off the driving lights.

Interesting. It shuts them off for good, or do you have to do that every time you start the car?

The proper way to do it would be to wire it with a DRL Off switch. It is the same switch as the fog light or rear tailgate open button. You can get one cheap from RockAuto, Overnight Autoparts, etc...Type in "daytime running light switch" in the search field.
Tip is to look at the z56 Police Package wiring diagram.
Worse case scenario, take it to the dealer & have them do it for a few bucks.
Short cuts: pull #15 fuse (which will disable your fog lights as well), click the parking brake a few clicks, pull the diode (little finned black box) that controls the voltage output from under the dash. Either way you still have the DRL light on in your dash. You could just take out the bulb, LOL.

Cool. Yeah, the cabin override button was a no go on my 99. Boo. Looking deeper on the interwebs, I found this, though unproven till tonight...

'99 Tahoe- By the right driver's knee under the dash is a fairly elaborate aluminum finned heat sink. It can be removed by bending the two bottom retaining clips, sliding it down, and unplugging the electrical connector. Presto, chango, no more DRL's! Plus it makes a nice paperweight.

Wow. I suck. Sorry for the redundant post. It uses the search next time or else it gets the hose again.

Yeah, I got banned on the old forum the first day i was there (same day I came here, maybe a month ago?), and they didn't site a reason, and didn't return my email when I inquired. I figure I'll just post as much data as I can here, so we get more search hits, so we eventually bury them.

I pulled the fuse on my '97. At some point, the green DRL idiot light quit coming on. It was at least a few months, but could have been longer. It's been years now and the idiot light is still out. I'm not sure if the bulb burned out but it seems coincidental that that's the ONLY bulb in my dash to go out. Maybe running nonstop for several months was too much for it.
Either way, two problems solved by pulling the fuse :)
