New amp

So I have a pretty basic system. Panasonic 5007Cu DVD head unit,factory Bose speakers,Rockford amp 300.1 and alpine R12 in a banpass box. I'm upgrading to a Rockford 500.1 I have had my system for about a year with no problems. I have been told I'm underpowering my sub and that I should be careful when I switch over...is there actually a concern or just hype? Should I just play at a moderate level for a few hours/days to break it in again? Also have the factory 6.5 sub and amp still going.

is it a new sub, or the one you've been using? If the old one, no need to break in a sub that's already broke in.

yeah its the old sub..i didnt think it would be an issue but figured i would ask. thanks
