View Full Version : Look what the UPS man just brought me.
...perfect timing too since my tank is about empty..time to fill 'er up with some 91 octane. :)
I know it's not as good as a BB tune...but after doing a lot of research, the Edge Evolution seems like the right choice for what I want (Adjust for tire size/some better gas mileage/a little more power/ability to change settings quickly/easy to reset back to factory).
I'll update this post after I find the time to install it this weekend and let y'all know if it was worth it.

Sweet, Let us know the difference when you get this installed.
Well...So far I'm pretty happy with it. The install is quick and painless. I set it up for the "extreme program" (as they call it), and customized it for my tire size. The truck now responds like I think it should have all along and my speedo is finally accurate. No more going 70 with the speedo showing 65.
Throttle response is much better...no more hesitation. It now shifts the way I want it to.
Downshifts on passing/speeding up used to be this: Lay on the long pedal...wait while it hesitates..then get the lurch as it finally drops down a gear. Now it is smooth and "natural" (if that makes sense). I have driven a stick most of my life, so I always felt like I wanted to shift the Tahoe before it does. Now I am comfortable with it.
The dash pod it came with was for the wrong style GM dash, but a card inside the box explains that if you call Edge, they will ship you the proper pod for free. I think they just throw random pods in the box. Would have preferred they looked at the vehicle details I sent and based the pod off of that, but at least they will ship the correct one for free. I don't plan on mounting it with the pod anyway since it's the same spot I mount my cell phone on roadtrips for GPS & hands free.
Here are a couple of pics of where I temp mounted it. I don't think I will keep it mounted. Most of what it displays you can get from the DIC & guages. But for now, the gadget geek in me is..."mmm...pretty lights & buttons". :insane:
I'm sure once that wears off, it will end up unplugged and thrown in the console until I want to re-program.

Another thing I noticed is my average MPG on the DIC is showing 14.5 MPG as apposed to the usual 12.3 I get (comes out around 12 after a fill up when I figure it out myself). It is still too soon to tell since I'm only about 25 miles into this fresh tank of gas & programming, but looks promising so far.
Off topic note: That flat mount thing stuck on the dash to the left of the radio is from the PO. One of these days I need to heat it up & get it off there. I find it funny that whatever he had mounted there was blocked by the shifter as soon as you put it in drive.

Nice review.. How much is something like that?
$359.20 ordered direct from Edge. $364.20 after shipping.
That was the best price I could find. All the authorized dealers in the area wanted $380-$400 and would have to order them from Edge anyway.

Nice, how did it affect mpg's?
It looks like I gained about 2 mpg since the tune. Now about 14 city/16 highway. But honestly I'm not sure if that's the tune or the fact that the speedo/odometer are accurate now since the programmer let me adjust for the bigger tires (275/65/R20).
I need a decent road trip to get a good judge of the mpg change. Until then, I am still happy with the better response. After 2 months of using the Edge I don't have any complaints.

i have had this exact one for sale for about a year now...i got onto the BB wagon but I did love this tuner also...I did a review of it also about 2 years back...
if anyone else wants this tuner let me know, it is sitting in my console not being used (and I have both pods so you wont have to call Edge and wait for shipping)

how hard is the install? what other functions can you use it for?
Install is a breeze. Plug in to the OBDII port and you are on your way. The most time consuming was the waiting for it to initialize & back up my original ECM program to memory. Here is a link to the user manual which will explain all of what it does:

That's awesome. Does it do all the same things as other plug n play tuners? Are there any others like it on the market? That molded stand for it looks like a clean place to put it, assuming you have to buy that part as well.
EDIT: I see that the ones they sell for 2010's are a bit more expensive... mainly because of their bigger screens? I need to investigate this further because this seems pretty damn cool. Any other testimonies on a 2010 tahoe?
There are other tuners out there that do the same basic thing. I picked this one because of the ease to change between tunes (or back to factory for warranty work) & for the display.
The stand comes with it, and if they send you the wrong one (I ended up getting the NBS stand in the box) , you can call them up & they will ship you the right one at no charge. So now I have both.
Edit: Read your edit. Looking at the web site it looks like they stopped the evolution after 2008 Tahoe's. The only difference I saw with the CS & CTS when I was looking to by mine was the color display. Wasn't worth the added price to me, that's why I went with the regular Evolution.
You might want to call Edge's customer service & see if they have the regular Evolution for the 2010s. They were friendly & helpful when I called them with some questions about mine.

Oh nice..
The one you have is for 07-08, not my year... correct? This is the one I would need to get??:

EDIT: Yeah, I think that my 2010 isn't compatible with the same version you have...
Correct...Unfortunately, the CS does the same thing as mine and is almost $500 because it is "prettier"...The whole reason I went with the $364 tuner over the $500 tuner. It looks nice, just not $136 extra nice to me.

Yeah, although with just a quick google search I've found it for under $400. What case comes with it that you speak of? I think mounting it at the A-pillar would be pretty sweet.
Ahhh... new toys :)
Sweet! Couldn't find any deals like that back in October when I bought mine.
Mine came with the pod that mounts to the dash next to the driver's side A-pillar.

Oh SWEET! Sold!! LOL. The wire when connected to the OBD-II port isn't obtrusive at all??
Nope...The wire tucks away nicely.

What octane fuel does your tunes require you to run? Thanks

Bam - so having it for four months now what are you calculating your MPG savings are? I am highly debating a tune if I can seriously get +2 MPG on my vehicle. Mine reads 12.3 and that's highly disappointing since it's advertised as 15 city/21 Highway (HA!).

x2 on that question. My wife's truck shows 12.0 mpg with 95% city driving. But is it worth the extra .25 a gallon that I am going to have to put in it?
My MPGs when from 12 to 14 in local driving.
I have only used the extreme tune so far, so not sure if the economy tune would eek some more out of it. I took it out on the highway for a little bit to see if the MPG improved any on that & I ended up right at 17 MPG for the short trip. Still have to take a longer road trip to get an accurate highway reading, but 17 is a big improvement from the 14 mpg I got during my TX to NY road trip last summer.
But is it worth the extra .25 a gallon that I am going to have to put in it? I think it's worth it for the added performance I'm getting. :burnout:
Now we will see if I still think it's worth it as the gas prices keep rising. :yucky:
What octane fuel does your tunes require you to run? Thanks
I'm running 91 using the extreme tune, the economy tune will run on 89 octane.
Off topic @ felixgun: Lovin' the esky roof rack & color matched mirrors. Very nice!
