Wondering if there are any Veterans here on the forum.
I wanted to Rant a little.
Well I have been out of the military since December now (medical separation)
waiting on the VA to give me my disability rating of 30% which i was told from the VA i would be getting. Then I get a letter in the mail saying i am getting 10%.
I didnt even get compensation for the whole reason I was put out of the military a year early!!!
I am going to fight this but I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with this?
All help and comments would be appreciated guys....

I'm in the military, Navy. I don't have any experience with that situation, but I'm unsure if I will be in the same boat as you shortly. I'm being treated for a heart condition, but if it doesn't fix it, I may be looking at medical sep as well.
Good luck with it. Let us know how it goes.

I have never had any experience like you are having but i hate the VA. It is extremely difficult to get anything done through the VA. My major complaint is the 4 to 6 month waiting period for anything you do.

I did my 4 and got an honorable but, in my third year I tore my quadricep completely off at the knee. I have a 7 inch scar where they flayed me open like a carp and it took 17 staples to close it back up. I had to fight for the rating but it’s worth the fight. KEEP ALL YOUR RECORDS and do research on your own. I basically told the dumb ass that was doing my evaluation exactly what happened, how it was repaired and the short and long terms affects something like this injury can cause. Sell your story, don’t lie, just be confident and honest. You’ll only have to do it once. The money will come and if you do it right you will get back pay. Good luck!

the thing is though they already gave me a 10% rating and back paid me 5 months its not that i am worried about... I want 30%!!! I know I deserve it

This fuckin' sucks!! You guys are out there laying it on the line for all of us and this is how you get treated.
Hope you get it resolved and figured out. You shouldn't have to dick around trying to fix things, the govt should be catering to you needs.. Peace..

What is the worst of it all i could still be in the military now... I was separated early!!! Because of my shoulder injury and being non-deployable. Now I am getting a percentage for damn heartburn!!!! What happen to the percentage for my shoulder.... the whole reason I was put out!!!!!!
I am going to fight it I have been getting my rebuttal together and getting all the medical statements I can find.
I could still be getting PAID!!! And so could my wife!!! She had a government job!!!! Now we are both unemployed!!! Good thing we know how to save huh!!

what do you know that is the same month that I got out. Dont expect to get much at first. be ready to fight for a better rating. have her go to the doctor at home for all her problems so that she can submit new "evidence"
Just a word from the wise.... plus its what I am going through
She should be between a 95 and 100%.. but will have to see what they give.. her medical records are vol 1-3. Plenty of evidence.. sucks it has to be that way for vets

Wanted to chime in too...did 5 in the Corps, got out honorably...But, and I advise this to you guys still in...I went to the VA on a nearby base 60 days prior to my EAS. I screwed my back up, have extremely flat feet, and of course bad knees. I have a chronic(never get better) degenerative disc disease, so that may have swayed the outcome a bit.
I am rated at 60%, should have been more according to the VA, but that was more than I expected. I can not express the importance enough of GOING BEFORE YOU GET OUT!![B] [B]2 - 3 months after separating, I got an award letter in the mail, one month later, I began receiving benefits. You guys deserve the benefits/compensation if you're actually hurt! It lost me a job or two that I was very qualified for, so I'd say that the compensation is merited.
Go to the VA before you get out!! Talk to your local D.A.V. or V.F.W., get some advice, trust me it is worth it.
For those of you fighting the VA, I advise the same thing, get with your local D.A.V. or any other veteran group. They are there to help you, they have lawyers and know how the system works! You can appeal to the VA annually I believe.
Keep all your medical records, go to medical and make copies! I'm not saying they would try to remove anything, but you never know! I had an MRI and several x-rays to document my problems, the more evidence you can present the better chance you have to succeed.

Good Luck with your claim, I spent 6 years as an army medic took 45 days of terminal leave and was not paid for the last 30. I called and called and never got paid. It was a good thing I good out now I work for great company and make 4 times as much. Keep that fight going.

For Jmildoc and everyone else in or out, a couple things I just learned. I still don't know all the ins and outs of disability, but definitely check out the state to state benefits for disabled vets. In California if you have any disability listed at all and they actually can list it at 0%, your children can go to any state school free of charge. They still gotta pay for books though. In Cali, that means UCLA, UC Berkley, any of the state schools they can get into, FREE. Hopefully that's still around in 17 years when my kids are ready. I know there are a bunch of other benefits, but not sure what they are. They also vary from state to state. Check with guys at your VFW or buddies that are still in.

I have been in the Navy 15 years now (hooyah submarines) and one of the thngs i've learned when it comes to getting money back from Uncle Sam, start early and stay on top of it. As soon as you find out your are being seperated or decide to seperate, go to the doc get everything documented and go to the VA. Make two copies of everything and put them in two different safe places. If you don't get the results you want get a lawyer that specializes in VA cases. Other than that, good luck and don't give up.
