So I've wanted to do the 6-High mod ever since I was in Iraq and reading the write-ups....Now that I've been back and had my truck for the last 4 months, I finally got my lazy ass up and did it...but I've included my DRLs
Now, whenever my Low Beams are on, my DRLs stay on...I think it looks kinda kool...plus, no other Kons out here are running with any sort of light mods, so it stands out just with the headlights on :D
High Beams come on...as well as Lows, DRLs, and Fogs!!! :D

What's the deal on your lower grill?

I have an IbisTek light bar from a Humvee with one IR Driving light in middle and a set of HID driving lights on the outside...I've painted it black and everything to match...just never got around to finding someone to make me a custom bracket to mount it...its going to have to be attatched to the frame since thats the only mounting point down there.. =( Will have to be some very odd shaped brackets to fit lol..I'll post up some pics right now..
it doesnt look too great in this pic because it sticks out so far...but when its pushed back, it doesnt look too bad...I'd make a mesh grill for the edges to fill it out

oh so its an HID kit?? How is that holding up? why dont you like the 5000k?
its a hair too blue compared to the 4300ks in the headlights, so 4500k will match up better
the hid kit is from ddm, its holding up very well, super bright, in fact its completely bright enough to drive with only my fogs on
im thinking about adding another set of grille lights to the ones already in there so there would be a total of 4 hidden grille lights and convert all 4 to hid as well, because i just realized that you can get hid for h3 bulbs
12 high mod here i come!

Thats NUTZ Man..... so you wanting to sell that kit to me when you get a new one.... I also gotta get one from RT I have been meaning to get, but its for the brights.... Maybe I will put it in the regular headlights......

haha i dont think ill be selling my kits, i only need to replace the bulb
i do want to find out if anyone has experience with the h3 bulbs in hid though, how bright are they?
cause right now the grille lights are bright enough to hurt my eyes and all but dont project light very well, just like the 9005 silverstars in my DRLs, they are very bright, really hurt my eyes but the light is scattered all over the place, but thats just the design of the DRLs anyway, so im not bothered by that
anyway how bright are h3 hids, anyone?

It really depends on your headlights. A 9005, 9003, h3, h1, 9006, 9007, 9008, etc. When were talking HID, are all THE SAME BULB, just a different base. So an H3 35W kit will be just as bright as a 9005 35W kit. It just depends on the housing. Also If the beam in your aux lights is not projecting light very well, THey are probably flood beam. On your next pair make sure to get the fog or spot beam paddern.

for the DRLs, i simply took an old pair of 9005 bulbs that i used to have in my headlights before i got the xenarcs, how would i go about getting fog beam 9005s?

How did you fit 9005 in the DRL?
Take the old bulbs out. Strip and wire tie, or solder, a 9005 socket on the drl wires (same gauge as the headlights I will add), and then modifty the bulb to fit in the headlight.

yes. You will have to use silicone sealent.

Okay, maybe I'm a little slow here, but I'm not seeing exactly how to do the 8-hi mod. I've got a 2000 and I've already done the two mods to give me the 6-hi, what do I do to get the DRL's to stay on as well.
So RT, you have regular headlight bulbs in your DRL's? Do they run too hot for the housing and lense or are there any other problems?

Im not exactly sure bout the pre-2003 models..however, if you have a "DRL" relay, use another diode to connect your lowbeams to the DRL..thats how I did it
danimalmax
06-21-2009, 08:45 PM
yea dont u have to jump the wires together for the pre 2003 models? i did the diodes on the relays as well
withac, i have high beam bulbs in my drls, it might be too hot, but its been okay so far cause i just turn them off when i drive during the day, i only wanted it for more lights when i turn my high beams on

That's not exactly correct.
http://www.retrosolutionsllc.com/servlet/the-310/DIGITAL-HID-XENON-CONVERSION/Detail
Scroll down, these are the guys that did the conversion in my GC, and they have an H3 mini HID bulb kit that might work better in H3 lights, since the focal point stays the same. Similar to how HIR bulbs keep the focal point the same as halogens.
Issue is they are a bit pricey compared to DDM, but I would not hesitate to recommend Todd and Co. The work they did on my GC lights to retrofit Valeo projectors in was outstanding.

Retro solutions is the only place I have found to be able to make that though. Which is why I didnt mention it since he likes DDM. BUt I have also used retro solutions and while more expensive. I feel the lighting components are better quality.

Thanks. The more I think about it I don't think I'll mess with it. I replaced the stock bulbs with Silverstar Ultra's so I have a pair of hi's and lo's I was thinking of trying it with. I'd want them on all the time though and I'd hate to melt the housing or distort the lense. Plus, the stockers would be more yellow than the SS's

I agree, but figured it was worth putting out there that an alternative exists. I mean, in theory you could order the H3 mini bulbs from Retro and change the connectors out to work with DDM's hardware. I just think those bulbs would be better suited to an H3 housing than rebased HID bulbs.
And for the record, I've got DDM HID's in my Tahoe, and no real complaints about the Raptor kits so far. If I had to complain, I'd say that they take a minute to hit full brightness, whereas the ones I have from Retro are bright as can be as soon as they are turned on. Might be because I have a harness in the Money Pit (aka Grand Cherokee), just have to find time to install the harness in the Tahoe to see if that solves my problem.

I like retro solutions customer service better as well. I had a couple questions about install and I e-mailed him at about 11:30 my time, expecting an answer sometime the next day, no in 20 min he responded. I still have his kit in my garage. I just cant use it because its a 9007 and I dont have a vehicle that takes that.

Todd is great. I emailed him asking about a fog light kit and didn't know off the top of my head what I had put in the Jeep (35w or 55w). He answered me back in about 20 minutes, and even was able to tell me a year later what was installed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but diodes are directional, meaning they'll only work one way. Any chance you blew your relay because they were backwards? Just askin the simple questions, not trying to insult you.

I may have done it backwards. I definitely blew the relay. the diode also melted in two!!
I am also not sure of the correct diodes to use.... and which pins to place them in to get the power to be constant

Whenever your yellow marker lights are on, so when the lows come on so do the fogs and when the brights come on the lows and fogs stay on. It's a piece o' cake to do

figured it out, same old pin 85 to pin 85 for the dtrls to come on with the lows. i just had the diode in backwards (soldered them to wire leads and covered with heatshrink didnt mark the silver bands direction)
