I picked up a Grant Kustoms roll pan last week and the guys at Grant were adimant about letting me know it is not legal to put a roll pan on an SUV. Anyone ever heard of this?

I would guess that it would depend on your local state laws. I don't believe they're illegal here in Tx, being as I passed inspection and have had local and state police behind me plenty of times. You might want to check your local Dept of Transportation website and see if you can find anything.

Eh, not too worried about it. I see plenty of them around but I just thought it was odd. It even comes with a sticker that says for show only. How would anyone notice unless they were really looking with the new body style cars/trucks having covered smooth looking bumpers anyway..... Certainly not going to stop me from installing it.......

I have never heard that before but I guess it make sense because there is no bumper to absorb any impact.

then it should be illegal for trucks, too. heck! i think half the stuff that is done to trucks and suvs are illegal.

The truck bed is considered a "bumper" since it separates the impact from the cab...... So I'm told.

this is why I didn't get a pan for mine, too many stupid drivers here. I wouldn't think it'd be illegal though.

In CA I got a ticket when I had my astro, You cannot have any passanger within six feet of the rear without a rear bumper and a roll pan does not count

yeah i know im PA it is illegal. i got a couple braces on the back side of my pan but nowhere near the classification of a BUMPER. and had to cut the frame rails about 4 inches and im sure in PA thats illegal too. F'n PA laws, so gay. "anything that didnt come on the car when it was made, is illegal", i couldnt tell you how many times the poepoe told me that.

Ive always heard roll pans are illegal on anything but a pick up.

A friend of mine got ticketed for his rear bumper delete on his ford GT here in georgia.

I wonder if there is anyway to reinforce the roll pan to qualify it as a bumper....

I just checked out the Denali Platinum rear bumpers.......no way, not for me. I like clean and minimal....that thing is like a spaceship. I'm still on the fence about putting the roll pan on. I really want to and think it looks mad sick but am worried about getting rear ended, not that I ever have(knock on wood) but you know how that goes.....once it's on here comes the jack ass with no insurance talking on the cell phone eating a big mac running into the back of me......

yea no shit!! and it would happen 30 minutes after that roll pan was installed too!!

My rear bumper is already painted, problem is the plstic trim that is black and yours and everyone elses is grey on mine (GD Z71 bull shit). thats the only reason i want the denali bumper, painted but with black trim instead of nasty ass grey.

if the body shop guy i know would paint it i wouldnt mind....he said that the way the surface is he wouldnt be able to paint and have it come out right....i tried to get him to paint my door handles....so now i have to find a hoe in a salvage lot that has painted handles so i can pull em...

but yeah i would prolly get tired of it....isnt there a SS valance for the bottom portion that could cover that grey....i think that would work too

I doubt I'd get a ticket, even so I like the look of my bumper with the rest of the truck not to mention the safety aspect. I know enough LEOs to get out of damn near anything, makes me feel like a dick for all the people without the luxury but too often it's not what you know it's who you know.
