I had this issue for a little while and I decided to consolidate all the info into 1 Post and a picture of what you need to replace it. If you have any questions just ask in this thread:

What you need:
AC DELCO 214-2149 [CANISTER PURGE SOLENOID VALVE]
-Brand new AC DELCO component with correct connector
-Replaces dealer part numbers: 25932571, 214-2149
-Picture:
http://i.imgur.com/UW23w.jpg

Quick synopsis:

-It started off as 'Tighten Gas Cap" on the DIC, As the solenoid valve was stuck open and would vent the tank so the computer thought the gas cap was loose. I got the solenoid unstuck but later it failed in the close position and would not vent when filling the tank. I too tried everything including turning the nozzle completely upside down but the nozzle would just click off. The day after I replaced it I was able to fill the tank as fast as the pump would go and the engine light went out a day or so later, Have not had the problem ever since.

****UPDATE****
-Problem seems to be solved, I replaced the evap solenoid the day before yesterday and now I can fill the tank as fast as the pump will go. It only cost me $28, The engine light has not shut off yet but that should resolve itself in a few days after I drive it around a bit.

-It connects to the charcoal canister under the rear by the gas tank, A lot of people refer to it as the evap valve or solenoid.
-You have to crawl under but its just above and infront of the rear axel.
-A screw driver to pry up on the tab in the middle of the bracket and the same with tabs on the hose to release it. Then slide the new part back in the bracket and bend the tab back to hold it and make the connections.
-About 15 minutes of your time and no gas leaking, Also easier to get to if you drop the spare tire.

Hope this helps everyone!

**********New updated part info*************
GM understands that this is an issue and this part has been updated with a new one that has hoses and moves the filter, but the new part costs $250-300 and is harder to install, and if you get this part it will last another 4-6 years (Which is when I don't plan on having same Tahoe)

This just happened to me last week and i remembered this thread so i knew what the problem was.

I have an extended warranty so i took it to the stealership to get it replaced and they forgot that i had the warranty and handed me a bill for $162!

I then told them to look up my warranty info so they can pay for it but i was amazed at how much they tried to charge me for 15 minutes of labor and a $28 part. Damn thieves.

This is an excellent write-up!!

I never had a "tighten fuel cap" error come up, but since buying this vehicle, I have had issues @ the fill up station with it pumping for a while and then clicking off the nozzle like it was full.

I replace this part over the weekend, and took it the gas - station afterwards, and am happy to say that it is indeed a fix!

Thanks for the write-up Anthony!

I just replaced the solenoid valve on my '07 with 71k miles due to a P0449 and P0455 code. I found the part (AC Delco 214-1936) on Amazon for $22 plus $5 shipping.

The part I got had the vent tube attached to it and also had the steel mounting bracket. It was super easy to replace once I dropped the spare tire out of the way.

See attached photo....

Great write up Anthony, man i've been having this issue for the past 4-5 months and two dealerships couldn't figure this out.. I will soon buy this part and do it myself. thanks man, it takes me nearly 10 MIN to refuel the truck hopefully this will resolve my issue.

Thank you so much for posting this! We had the same problem, Tighten Fuel Cap kept popping up then engine light came on. We replaced the Fuel cap and it didn't fix the problem, then it started not letting us fill up the gas tank, so we replaced the CANISTER PURGE SOLENOID VALVE ($35) and took the tahoe to the gas station and the tank filled right up! We just changed it today so the check engine light is still on but it should be going off in a few days. Thanks again!

I ordered that part a while ago and replaced it on my truck. Unfortunately it has not fixed my problem. Is there anything in the engine bay like a solenoid or valve that could be causing this? I've tried to not pay a hefty fee for a dealership to fix this but I need inspection soon....

that blows man, what codes are you getting ?

Same here. Thanks for the great help.

Well here is my 1 day update... installation went fine it was a breeze to install if you have a lift you dont have to remove the spare tire, you will have plenty of room in front of the axle, i did struggle with the evaporation hose coming out them damn clips didnt want to come off, had to stick to flat head screw drivers on each end then pry it off, took me over 5 minutes to figure this out.

Re-fuel and it was clicking like how it used to, it did click 3-4 times but not like before vs every 2-3 seconds. So i'll give it a few days for the fuel system to recognize that theirs a new part in the charcoal canister box...

I reset the check engine light, and so far it hasn't come up, im hoping this resolve my issues either way i will keep you guys posted in the next few days.. hope this works

I bought the canister purge solenoid valve from AM-autoparts.com for $30.50, including shipping from eBay. It came quickly, so now it's time to install it. I didn't have a lift, so down came the spare, and under the Yukon go I!. Just like Travieso, I had a hard time getting the hose clips off, and the mounting tang was a pain, but at last it came out. The new one went in quickly, and, so far, no "Tighten Fuel Cap" message. I need to run a couple of days to see if the engine light goes off, or , get it reset.

So far, so good.

Thanks to all.

Hi folks,

2004 Tahoe LS 4WD

I bought this part: ACDelco 214-2149 Professional Vapor Canister Purge Solenoid

It matches the photo at the top of this thread.

I put the truck up on ramps, crawled under from the rear, and I cannot find the part anywhere! I looked all around the gas tank, above and around the rear axle, followed the fill and vent tubes from the rear side panel to the tank--nothing. There is a small rectangular piece with cables behind and right of the tank, but it's much much smaller than this canister and the wrong shape, and the connections don't seem to match. There are no loose cables or hoses hanging anywhere, so I don't think the part is missing.

Any suggestions on exactly where I should look, or if I bought the wrong part for this truck? I'm hoping I'm not going crazy.....

Thanks.

This is the part I bought, which all the parts websites said is the correct part for my 2004 Tahoe LS.

http://i39.tinypic.com/10yj912.jpg

But this two-piece kit is also available, althought the websites say this is NOT the right kit for my Tahoe.

http://i39.tinypic.com/w7gp4.jpg

Here is what I see when I crawl under my truck.

This is near the back of the gas tank. This rectangular piece looks a lot like the one in the two-piece kit above.

http://i40.tinypic.com/157owvb.jpg

This is the Evap Canister mounted on the side of the gas tank.

http://i42.tinypic.com/10iik9t.jpg

One of the lines from the Evap Canister leads to the unit pointed to by the arrows in the next three photos. I can't tell if this is the other part shown in the two-piece kit above. Does anyone know what this part is?

http://i40.tinypic.com/16av337.jpg

http://i40.tinypic.com/11c8678.jpg

Finally, this is a little more forward. I'm not sure what the arrow is pointing at, but I don't think it's part of the evap system. Maybe part of the 4WD shifting system? I have no idea.

http://i39.tinypic.com/qrzqrq.jpg

Here are a couple of GM diagrams I found, and a couple of pages from the GM manual. I see there is some confusion between "purge valve" and "vent valve". The manual says the purge valve is under the hood, on the intake manifold. But I have looked at that, and the part I bought is much bigger. I think other GM trucks, especially pickups, have the part I bought near the gas tank. And I think what I bought is a "vent valve" regardless of the word "purge" in the name of the part.

No, I didn't misspell satisfying. Satisficing is a real word.

So I just finished installing the part; I haven't been to the gas station yet but I will soon. I took a pic showing the placement of the part on the truck:
http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q260/will_nate/Denali/43b58e2e-1.jpg
You can see it with the wire loom and the hose coming from it, in front of the axle attached to the underbody with a clip which is somewhat difficult to remove. The hose clip is a little tricky but came off easier than the clip for solenoid. Scale of 1-10 1 being easy 10 being hard I'd say it was a 3. Mostly because of the awkward positioning for me to try and get the clips off. Would've been easier on a lift. Only necessary tool was a flathead screwdriver.

Damn all of you. I read this thread, and even posted 2 weeks ago. Now I'm suffering the same problems. Got the fuel cap warning message earlier and the P0449 today. Looks like I'm fixing the truck on Thursday.

Edit:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There is a TSB on this as of April 2011 for NNBS trucks. Bulletin number is 09-06-04-028C. There is a revised evaporative emmissions (EVAP) canister vent solenoid (CVS) valve assembly. The revised EVAP CVS valve vent pipe attaches to the fuel tank filler neck. New p/ns are 20995472 for the EVAP CVS valve assembly and 19257603 for the jumper harness. Expect to spend ~$80. Service department can provide you with detailed install instructions should you want to attempt this. Looks very simple and will attempt to do this myself tomorrow afternoon. Book time for the dealership is .8 hours. I hope this helps.

I'm still having trouble with this. The first day I filled up after the install (about two weeks ago), it clicked twice initially trying to pump gas, but then let me fill the whole tank. So I thought the problem was solved. Today I go to fill up again, and it's back to square one. Clicking every f#%^ing 5 seconds! This is annoying as hell...
Any more ideas on fixing this? Did I just waste $25???

I don't know if that new kit will solve your problem or not, Esch. My issue was the code being thrown and not passing emissions. I never had the clicking off while filling problem.

Anyway, I bought a MAF sensor at a junkyard for 40 bucks, popped it in and the P0101 code went away. Then the truck got stuck in 4WD. I ended up replacing the transfer case encoder motor. Royal pain in the butt. I cannot allow myself to buy any more GM trucks...

Hey guys, new to the forum here, thought I 'd chime in with my experience with this problem. I drive a lot of dirt and gravel so my 2005 yukon has had this most of its life. sometimes changing the solenoid valve helps but if it doesn't, I have had to take the canister off and beat the crap out of it and blow it out with an air nozzle, in order for it to take fuel. it doesn't make it perfect but seems to help a lot. for me it makes the fuel click off maybe one per fill instead of once every couple of seconds.

I doubt the canister was actually the problem. If the problem still exists it will take a few ignition cycles for it to show the code again.

The solenoid is back in front of the spare. The new one looks nothing like the old one. The old one was a box and the new one is round.

When I got in and test drove it this morn, I hadn't gone 1/4 mile and I got the msg "Tighten Gas Cap" (which I had never gotten before. I drove to the gas station and topped off, about a 1/4 tank, then back home. No msgs.

Then we put about 225 miles on it. Start and stopped multiple times, No msgs yet. I haven't filled the tank again yet, I'm down to about 1/2 right now.
I'm taking it on a trip Memorial Day weekend, about 500 miles.

I guess we will see.

As far as the Solenoid goes, all I saw was a BIG box (size of a shoe box), but it didn't really look like a solenoid. It was above the axle between the Tank and the Spare tire.

Hmmm.
