View Full Version : Can't handle the low ride quality anymore....

Well I have had it with the ride of the Pedders Kit :sad72:. I am going to
order some new stock type struts and shocks and put the Hoe back to stock
height as soon as I get a free Saturday. It looks great dropped but I am tired
of the ride on the Columbus Ohio roads as they SUCK:fca5278d:. Out in the
country it is a dream but once you hit inerstate 70 it goes down hill fast.
I am really diapointed with Pedders customer service as I sent them several
emails asking for suggestions / help with the ride quality with not one single
reply :Nonono:. They were all over me whan I was shopping for the kit so I
was shocked to get such little follow up service.
I will be posting the kit in the for sale section once I get it off and verify
everything is in good condition.
So does anybody have any suggestions for a good replacement shock /
strut that won't break the bank???
UPDATE. Well I sent one more hail mary email to Pedders asking for help and they knocked my socks off with the reply.
"We have not had any problems with these, so I am not sure if you got a bad set or what the issue was. The life on the struts should be much longer than one year, and like I said I am not sure exactly what the problem is and I can not 100% guarantee that there won’t be a problem again, but I can tell you that myself and Pedders will make sure we take care of you in the future as a Pedders Customer. "
So I may be keeping my kit after all. I am very happy they are hooking me up as i was expecting to be out in the cold after all the email that went unanswered.

X2 on the Belltech. I am not lowered yet, but from everything I have heard the Belltechs have the best ride, not to mention you can tow with the Belltech rear springs.

I will be going back to stock. I blew my mad money on the Pedders kit and it was a big waste. Plus I might look into selling it now that the kids are out of school and have their own cars. Stock height will help sell it quicker than being dropped.
Thanks for the info.

The Pedders kit is not entirely bad. I am yet to feel any rear coil ride as good as my Pedders coils rode w/o shock extenders.
What makes Pedders suck are those front coils. They ride way to harsh with the stock springs over rough terrain. When I had them in Dallas they were fine, once I went to my college town I hated them in like 2 weeks.
Drop coils on these trucks just do not work well at all with the factory BS struts, Either get the Eibach, Pedders or Bilstein HD front struts installed with them and you will be surprised how much better the ride gets.
And yeah those Pedders kit just don't sell, atleast not to people outside Law enforcement.
I do feel for you Quick, that's why when they tried to persuade me to buy the whole kit I refused.

I did buy the whole kit. I got the springs, struts, shocks and sway bar kit. I have around $850 in it which is big money for a drop kit. This is why I am so ticked off about the ride quality. They have ZERO customer service after the sale which in my book is not acceptable. With all the press they get on the pony cars of late you would think they would want to take care of an existing cutomer. Hell if it ends up being a poor strut or spring quality issue all they would have to do it hook me up with a repl;acement and I would be a happy camper.

Oh I did not know you got the whole thing. That means they're front coils must just ride like shit. I do know that with drop coils, expect the stock struts (or other normal replacements like the Pedders one) to only last about 15000 miles, and about 25000 with a heavy duty strut like the Bilstein. So it could just be that the struts were worn out, especially if the ride was not nasty from the get go.
Hands down, Eibach makes the best riding front drop springs for these Tahoe, most say that you will not even know that it was dropped. And thats w/o aftermarket struts.
When Excon11 gets back from his ban, he will tell us how your Bilstein HDs ride with the Eibach front drop springs, and what the difference was from when they were stock.

I am so sick of the ride I don't like to drive the Hoe anymore. I am looking at picking up a set of Bilstein HD and putting the stock springs back in. As soon as I save up the $315 and get a free Saturday the Pedder kit is outa here. I am so looking forward to the smooth ride. Boy an I getting old......
If I though a new set of struts would solve the problem I would pull the trigger as it would be cheaper and less expensive than going back to stock. I do have over 26,000 miles on them in just over a year:jester:.

Well look at it the positive way, if you had McG coils up front not only would they ride worst than the Pedders, they would sag down to close to a 3" front drop. Then your car will not even align anymore and you would rub with a stock wheel/tire! :emotions133:

you should look into the Belltech front Drop Struts. great ride... they're adjustable -2 to +2 inches. you can drop it or raise it however you want
not sure if yukon and tahoe suspension parts are interchangeable, but if you do need the stock parts, i have it all available.

im tellin you guys the belltech kit rides great. The only thing i like better is the djm trailblazer rear spring. It rides great and slams the back of these trucks almost 6 inches.
quickss im around 24/7 if you need help and like many kits ive done here locally and sold on the site the belltech spindles/rear 3-4 inch adjustable springs with belltech street perf rear shocks rides great. or you can put the stock springs in front and use the belltech drop struts with the rear set up i said. I guarantee it will ride well.

R. Beezy do you have pics of your Yukon with the drop kit that you can post? Your 2/3 drop looks lower than many other 2/3 drop kits; I really like what I can see on your signature. Sorry for getting a little off topic.

i will post recent pics of my truck sometime tomorrow. my signature pic is an old pic of my truck before i added the Belltech Drop Struts, so now my recent pics will show the front of my truck being even lower since the Drop Struts are adjustable.
but ya, i'll get back to you tomorrow with some pics of my truck.....

thx bro!! its now actually a 3/4 drop. the belltech 2/3 drop kit comes with a rear 1" spacer that you can choose to use or not. if you use it, its a 3" drop. i didnt use it so it ended up becoming a 4" drop.
the front was initially dropped 2" but since i installed the adjustable Belltech drop struts, i dropped it another inch so now its a 3" drop.
my measuremens up front from ground to fenderlip center is 33", while the measurements in the rear center is 33 3/4"-34"

Ditto on that! I've been running the full Pedders kit for about 8 months now and for me it's just about ideal. The damping is a little more abrupt than stock but no way would I call it harsh. (If you want harsh, try Bilstein sport setting shocks!) Of course ride quality can be pretty subjective.....

I hope your kit last longer than mine. I did put a ton of miles on it as well as expose it to one Ohio winter but my front strut shocks have zero resistance so my wheel bounces over bumps and the front end bobs up and down. I am happy that they stepped up to the plate and are sending me replacements but after driving it through the winter I feel the kit is to low for a daily driver in Ohio. Once I get the stock stuff on I will post the kit for sale.

I installed a 2/3 drop and beltech street performance shocks front and rear, trimmed the bump stops and it still rides like shit. anyone have any hits as to why its not even close to factory ride as everyone says it should be?

jhoodium where did you get your kit from? do you have a part number for the rear kit? are you using shock extenders? your truck is pretty low in rear id cut the bumpstop brackets off (aka free travel mod) then go from there.
