Alright, Here goes nothing.
So my dad was telling me today that i was stupid for putting the money into my truck on "extras" because its old, high mileage, and will die soon. Heres my argument.
First off, I love my truck. Its my only hobby now. Working on it and keeping it clean and running smooth. The only things i have bought "extra" for it are grille, and $200 audio system. Otherwise i have done fuel filter, oil filter, air filter, synthetic oil change over, plugs, wires, and some other stuff i cant remember.
And, If i just replace things as they break or before they break why cant my truck last?

BAHAHHHHH
You should live in my household.
When I graduated HS my rents bought me a fully loaded jeep. I told him it was going in the shop for a few days b/c I wanted to put rims, exhaust and a system in it. My father turned around and said NO its my truck, my name is in the title.
2 Days later, I bought my own vechiles and have done wutever the fuk I wanted too.
How about a 95 GST that I poured DISGUSTING AMOUNT of money and two years of work.
I bought my truck with 97k. The first time I brough it home my mother referred to it as a meat wagon and my father a gas guzzler. But he loves his 05 Avalanche LOL.
Who gives a shit. Your vechile, your money! Just make sure you have money in the bank and money for repairs. MODDING IS A DIESEASE!

MAINTENCE FIRST!
As I got older I am no longer in the need for drastic speed. I think I did good job with EsaHoe (as my FIRST YR ANNIVERSARY comes close this august), keeping it clean and maintained.
I set away atleast $1,200-1,500 a year on upgrades and MAINTENCE.
This year I don't think I stuck to it due to two hit and run accidents and BB Tune Session in NJ. I'm waiting to do my hood on the Anniversary BC ITS A NEW YEAR!

Haha, I wish. My dad ALWAYS has to be in my shit. No matter what i do. I remember when the mailtruck drove up my driveway to drop the grille off and he grabbed it and said, what the F is this? I said. Its mine. And he threw it on the ground and walked away. Talk about love.
Maintain it properly, repair what's broken, check the service bulletins from GM, sock away for a new tranny and it will last a LONG time bro...I drove my honda CRX 300k miles. When I finally got rid of that thing, it was so driven that I had bent valves, replaced cv joints, new clutch, the hood had even flown off at 80mph on a two-lane road when an 18wheler went by, and it finally caught fire on the side of the interstate....I pulled over and called it square. I paid $3500 for it and put at least 4k into the maintenance over many years. Loved that damn thing...

Hey bro, honestly it sounds like your dad is either jealous of you or has unresolved issues with something else.

Tell him it is cheaper than buying a new truck and after you have had this one a while you will have most of the kinks worked out of it and if you go and buy a newer truck you dont know what you are getting it could be a lemon. How many miles does your truck have on it?

Ok, let's say the motor goes...stock 350 is about 1500-1700 bucks new from GM. A new truck could cost upto 600 or so a month. It is also very nice not to have a payment. If you like the truck put money into it. Hell many of us put more money into upgrades than the trucks are worth. But I can say with pride I drive a bad ass truck that gets a lot of attention.

I have two boys, one almost 19 and one 16....if they took half the interest of fixing up their cars like you, I'd be pleased. I'm sorry your father doesn't see it, but nowdays, there is alot worse stuff you could be spending your hard earned money on....drugs, pool halls, etc.
Keep it up, don't get discouraged.

I would post a new thread with your question. Not sure why you put it here in 350V's opinion thread that is 5 months old.
That said, I never saw this thread. It was just before I joined the forums. I'm glad you have kept at it 350.
