View Full Version : Trading for an 07 Escalade...thoughts?

Whatever car I end up with out of high school will be my car for at least 6 years. With that said, will it be sensible to trade for a loaded used 07 Escalade, with warranty and perfect exterior/interior, low miles? Sure, I'd have to pay longer, but that's fine. The big deal is that it would be lower than my monthly payments on my Tahoe [no, my parents did not buy my Hoe outright].
It's a hard choice...because if I keep my Hoe then I will be paying more, but it would be paid off sooner.
If I went with the Escalade, I'm getting all the features I wanted to mod on my Tahoe - LED's, HID's, chrome, captain's, power folding, etc etc. The payment will be less than what my Tahoe is monthly, and I could even throw in these killer 22" wheels and still be less than my Hoe. I would have to pay for it even longer, but that really doesn't seem to be concern, because even if I kept my Tahoe, I can't trade it in until about 6 years from now anyway.
So to me, it sounds like switching to an 07 Escalade will be a smart choice. I get every feature I would want, without having to mod, could throw in nice rims, and pay less than what I am on my Tahoe.
Just wondering what you guys think of it. Help is really appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

As for pricing, dealer gave me $35,000 for my Tahoe, and one of the Escalades would be $36,000. A different dealer gave a quote on his used Escalade, it was $39,000 and offered $34,000 on my Tahoe. But, that one has that extremely beautiful camel interior while the cheaper one had black. Don't really like that so much, I see it every day in my mom's ESV.

man keep the hoe if it will be paid off sooner the additional money you can mod out the hoe!! yeah the esky has the looks but to me the hoe has a more demeanor look plus its the same frame and has the same interior besides the speedometer and grille. to me the hoe would last longer seems more rugged and ready to take a beating (but i could be wrong) but thats my .02 anyhow up to you but i would stay with the hoe!!!

I'd say shoot for what you want!
But remember your mom has an Esky, i couldn't tolerate having the exact same carwith my parents, It'd be like being in the same thing 24/7!!
Just mod the Tahoe is what I would say, your still gonna want to customize the Esky in some way when you get it anyway.

Yeah, it'll look the same as hers when I buy it, but not after a few mods I have in mind. :Handshake:
But then if I wanna mod my Tahoe, I always feel like it's gonna look ricey. There's so much I wanna do to it, it costs a lot of money to do it, but if I get the Escalade, I get all of that included anyways. No mods needed.

Haha true, but the mods aren't the biggest concern here. My focus is the payments. If an 07 Escalade comes with more features and lower payments, why not? The only reason I asked here is to see if there's something I'm missing that would really make this too good to be true. It seems like it is, and I've gone over it several times, but I don't see any reason why not. Sure, I love the Hoe, but if I wanna mod one, I have our 2002 model.
Thanks for your input though. That goes to everyone else as well. You guys do have some good points, I'm just not looking to base this off what mods I can do. I'm basing this decision off the payment amount. It seems like it would be a good decision, but I'm wondering if I'm missing some sort of catch.

To me the best mod is a paid off rig.

2007<2008. Only plus I see here is the better engine tranny combo. ROund here if you have an escalde your an old retired 80 year old dude. OR wanna be thug/rapstar that either stole it, stole the rims for it, sold drugs to get it, Or sold his wife to make the 1000$ a month payments. No way. Cadillac SUV+white guy= un cool kid, or 80 year old grandpa. Tahoe is for the younger crowd IMO. Also Escalde insurance will be higher, and you will have higher vandalism and theft risk.
ALso even if your payments are the same. Depending on what you paid for your hoe. You just threw away 10k in payments over the last year.

Well even if it happens, it won't be for maybe a year or so, after I talked to my mom about it today. But, what about if I need to downsize? You guys think that new Camaro would fit well? :)
Test drove it the other day and was ready to give up my Hoe.

well camaro biggest thing is one FINDING ONE, and two getting one at MSRP. Most dealers are dicks and charge over. Not one camaro on ebay is at msrp.

Haha RT I don't know where you live but the Esky drivers around my area are mid-adged dads/men who are well prominent (over $500k and way up houses) and not gangsta like you described!!
LoL if anything Tahoes have more gangsta drivers than Eskys!
The aged over here have Bentleys, Mercedeses and othe foreign nice ride. The DTS is the only more common retiree car over, not even the Town Car.
Plus what else do you expect, the Escalade is the most luxurious American SUV, and one of the more luxurious SUVs in worldwide general!

You will owe more than the Esky is worth probably in 12 months of payments if not sooner......look at what you are paying on the total loan with interest.
Looks like you're really not sure of what you want at this point......

the market for truccs is so f'd up that it is possible for him to walk off with a fullt loaded esky for cheaper becuz dealers need to get rid of them on that note i would trade it in.... but again with the intrest and length of the loan he may be paying more in the long run if he decides to get a camaro then obviously he would be paying much less unless the dealer has a mark up on it which i would doubt becuz the new mustangs and the challnger are out so to be competitive the markup[ couldnt be that much/ on a side note the new transformer movie is due in a couple weeks the movie which damn near declared the camaro presence could also be motive to mark up the price...

It sound to me like you are upside down in your Tahoe correct? If so i would keep it.
---------- Post added at 12:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:23 PM ----------
I just re read your post. There is no way you will keep it 6 years. I know i am 16 too, and you'll see something you like 6 months down the road and want to trade again.

I cant keep a car 6 months. As much as I would like to, and im 22. We just dont get the praticality gene until were atleast over 30. Even when I was younger I traded cars alot, now it was one POC for another. But I still changed.

True, I probably won't keep it for the 6 years. And the dealer gave me a good offer on the one Camaro they had here, but it was already sold when I went back. It was still there though. For the town I live in, I was shocked to hear they already had 8 orders.
And yeah there are quite a few Escalades here but only rarely do I see older people driving them. I see them in Mercedes or CTS cars. All of the NBS Escalade drivers I see are blonde chicks, or at least it feels that way. Most of the previous body style ones belong to older people.
And I don't really know what I want, you were right Fyrcaptain. I just don't. I can't tell if the Escalade/Camaro deal would be saving me money since I'm going to an older model SUV, or a new car that's worth less than my Tahoe. I like mine enough to keep it, but I'm not too attached to let it go.

The main question is are you upside down(owe more than your Tahoe is worth)? If so do NOT and i repeat do NOT trade in till you get it paid down some. BTW i can tell you if you get the Camaro your payment will not be going down.

Haha the insurance rate scared me. Not going for the Camaro. But I am not upside down in my Tahoe payments, I owe much less than its worth.

Then do what makes you happy! You want the Esky go get it. I am actually thinking about selling both my trucks for a 5 series bimmer or a Denali.

If it weren't for my dad, ohhh man I'd have a one of those 5 or 7 series! I can't get anything made in Europe until I move out though. :emotions122:

just my 2 cents i would stick with the tahoe. its newer. and i know from my experience having a paid off vehicle is muchhh better than havin payments. for some reason im crazy upside down in my denali. still lol. i cant wait till its paid off. thats just that much money a month that i can throw on it in mods ya kno. just my opinion!

Thats all that's holding me up is the fact that i am not looking forward to a payment again. There is no better feeling than driving a car you owe nothing on. The Denali on the other hand i could have almost paid off right there at the lot so i am looking very hard at it.
