this is the first GM suv ive had. had it for almost a year n a half, its had the noise since i bought it, i just figured it was because its AWD. sometimes when im accelerating it makes a loud hissing noise (idk how to explain really) whining sound from the front? anybody know anything about this or had this happen with their truck? any help would be great!

Someone will chime in, the weekends are a little slow, during the week is normally when everyone is on. I don't have AWD nor hear anything similar on my truck, so IDK.

lol, I love how people expect others to post on topics on the weekends.
Anyway, I think your issue is in the fron diff. To me the way it reads is as if some bearings have worn out and the backlash/meshing is off, thus resulting in the type of sound you mention. What this equals to is rebuild time.
Man, I love 2wd.

I love 2wd too Sepiroth, too many guys chime on the forum with nothing but complaints about 4WD or Autoride!
Plus in Texas I don't need 4WD!

Nice looking truck!
I don't hear any hissing when I accelerate with my 01 4x4 LT. I guess I'd check those 24's for rub marks and then have the front end checked over for any suspicious wear. Sorry can't be of more assistance...

ill take any advice i can get! it was happening before i put the wheels on it. i just blew it off. figured it was the all time awd crap. is there any way to rip that junk out and make it 2wd? that would be amazing

If you don't need 4x you shoulda bought a minivan

Texas is like 4x4 or your gay. I can think of soooooooooo many reasons for 4x4 in tx. If you said cali then yea. But not TX your a fake texan now. lol
It sounds like the front end diff. Get the fluid changed first if it still makes it your probably looking at a rebuild. What I had to do on my 4x4 silverado.

Haha I can bet there are more 2WD SUVs and Trucks in Texas than 4WD, and if not, then a good amount of those with 4WD don't even use it at all.
Remeber all the posers with lifts, levels and body lifts on a 2WD don't count lol!
Plus Texan roads are some of the best, so 4WD is unnecessary for a DD....

by saying 4x I just meant ability to drive all wheels...I know denalis and escalades are awd, I've owned 2 of em. I just think if you don't need the utility of 4x/awd a minivan would be a better choice. Better driving behavior, better fuel economy, and better interior packaging.

not really. yukon xl has more space, more comfort. Smoother ride, and its bigger and safer in an accident. also you wont look queer driving one. and minivans come in awd too btw (toyota sienna is just one of the fiew that do)

most minivans ride better than any truck based suv, plus the handling is better. They arent any safer you just feel that way. Don't get me wrong I'm not advocating minivans as I'd never be caught dead in one...just pointing out that they make more sense than a 2wd SUV, unless you tow...which most don't.

I guess, but what young person with no kids would pick a minivan over a 2WD SUV, haha none at all!

First, I'd check a few of the following as I have an 03 Denali. When I'd stomp on the gas, you could hear the whining sound real bad...the pitch would raise as the RPMs would... This could be caused by;
1) Power Steering Pump (TOO full - NOT full - or just going bad) *Caused that for me*
2) Your Idler Pulley/Tensioner Pulley being seized up (Belt slips) *The most common cause*
3) Fan Belt going bad
I dont believe its the wheel bearing...My Ford Ranger was lifted with 33's I used to climb up the streetlight base pillars...well..and other cars and stuff...anyways, the wheel bearing DID go bad in my front passenger side wheel...you dont really *HEAR* it...you DO FEEL it though...its a constant rough feeling..as if something is grinding inside...you'll hear it grind before whine
RT....you better take that shit back about California and not needed 4x4!!!! hahahaha ;)
Cali has better 4x4 then TX anyday of the year..PERIOD ....GOOGLE it!!!! lol
I like the Nissan Quest... ;)

HAHAHAHA, this thread went to shit for a little bit.
Now, my personal opinion is if you know how to drive, you dont need a 4x4. Now if your going mudding and wheelin', then 4x4 will be a necessity.
The past winter, we have a 18-20 snow dump storm. It snowed all night and was hell for a lot of people. Mow me having a 2wd, how many times do you think I got stuck?
I got stuck 0 times.
This was just some fun I was having at the beach front parking lot. The quality sucks and video is graining, it was shot from a cell phone. Still none the less, you get the idea, lol. Just actin' a fool.

i know its not the wheel bearing. ive already had that problem with this truck. although i do believe the driver side is goin out now haha. but this noise is way diff. i think ima get it on video and let you guys see it, maybe itll help. it doesnt happen all the time. just like 30% of the time. when im accelerating. sounds like a rush of air more than a whine. (told ya idk how to explain lol). and it picks up with the rpm.
